Ghillie Suit Question

I'd never spend 250$US on stuff to make a ghillie.
I made min and it was less than 50$CAN of material.

If you want it all milspec, (whatever that mean,as there is no milspec ghillie), you could search harder to get the exact material they use. But even so, ghillies are functionnal things. You could improve upon it yourself with stuff that no one ever used before and it will work. It's not like doing an impression where every details mathers. In a ghillie, it's only features and necessities. There is no 2 ghillies alike.

In terms of more questions, on the HSGI sniper waist pack, would the triple M4 capable pouches securely hold a Mk23+ detached silencer?

I think the MK23 silencer would be best stored in a small flare pouche, or a large flashlight pouche. Maybe a baton pouche with a flap.

There is silencer specific pouches, wich would be ideal.

I store mine in my large "random" pouche where I put stuff like wisle, small face net, food and other usefull things.

I rarely use the silencer when sniping. When I pull out the MK23, I don't have the time to screw the silencer on. When that thing is out, I'm generally bugging out myself and the first thing on my mind is speed. If I have to shoot, the MK23 unsupressed sound is quiet enough not the alert everyone around.

There are gaps between the flap and pouch, so there is a risk it might fall out unless you snug it down well. I've only carried MP5 mags in mine, and while none have fallen out, there is the attention to detail of making sure the flaps are snugged down well. So basically it's a partial 'yes'.

Yeah... you're right. I was just wondering if the stuff in the kit was anything special. I used burlap, old OD cadet t-shirts, and a couple of other things... can't remember exactly, and it was dirt cheap, as I was a Cadet at the time and had no money
Its been years, so I figured I'd take another go at building one again. Gonna be interesting finding the materials over here.... or at least asking for them LOL!

But, the Silencer makes it that much cooler

Yeah, i think i may run it without a silencer, or perhaps with a short one, seeing as it comes with a 16-14mm adapter :smile:

Also, do the suspenders on the Waistpack setup have any sort of Molle? Or should i run the H harness with my Hydration carrier?

Or should i grab a molle belt, get some suspenders, and make one to my own needs?

I'd definatly go all modular.

With camelback, Be sure that the carrier sit low enough as not to come pressing on the back of your head when you are crawling. I carried mine once without securing it well and it made my day a horrible one.

Back with pouches, I use a large general purpose pouche on the back side of my belt. If fit a raincoat or water bottles + food. It's accissible by lifting the tail end of my ghillie top. And it's completely covered by the ghillie suit, even when crawling.
I also have large (but smaller than the large pouche on my back) on the side of the belt for other general purpose stuff, like map, food, special camo. I keep my ammo near the front of my belt, for quick and easy reloading. The front part of the belt is not covered by pouches, to allow easy crawling and to get as low as possible on the ground. All the belt is covered by the ghillie suit top. Like I posted before, I only button the middle part of the ghillie top, so I can access the suff on my belt and underarm suspender. (Side arme and it's ammo).


You can see a bit what I mean in this picture. It's my old CF 82 webbing. It get the job done. All this is normally under my ghillie suit.

Yeah, i see what you mean. My Ghillie top is never all the way done up, so i was even thinking a shoulder holster; easily excessible, hopefully fits my Mk23, and 2 mags. All out of the way, then get a duty belt, mount the 3 APS mags, get perhaps a EMT pouch for ammo, snacks, and other goodies. With the hydration on its harness.

Im just wanting to clear the front as much as possible, even a battle belt is bulky. After crawling for three hours, i found its hard enough as it is.

What do you think?

I'd use a simple molle padded belt with no stiffening belt.
Unless you have a pistol and mags on your belt, you won't need a stiff belt. It will be suspended by your shoulder straps anyway and the weight won't deform it.

It's a personnal preferance, but I wear my webbing belt a little over my hip, unlike a normal belt, so the weight is more distributed on the hips and not only supported by the shoulders. Much like the belt on a large rucksack. It has the benefit of being easyer to crawl with and hide better under the ghillie suit.

The HSGI Sniper Waist pack is just a singlely made pouch system, with roughly 3" belt loops, that's it. You slide it onto whatever belt you have, be is military pistol belt or Friar Tuck's rope belt.
