A reasonable starter sniper rifle?

Also the lack of hop up really screws with any range you can get out of a revolver. There is a hop up mod tho.
I would suggest an m9 (i love mine) also the 1911/hicapa's are popular sidesrm chioices.
One could also argue an auto pistol like a g18 or m93r.
If you dont mind extra weight try an mp9 or mp7.
If you want a quiet option socom gemtech oasis or mk23.
Lotta options all beter then a revolver. Even if you mod said revolver for hop up and adjustable fps.

Snipers side arm
Anything mag fed. seriously getting caught with 6 rounds as you're falling back sucks, not so much the capacity but the reloading. even a single stack 1911 would work better,

thanks for your input.

I picked up a WELLS VSR kit (scope, bipod and sling) instead of the CA (didn't come with the accessories). WELLS is a bit plastic-feel compared to CA, but it is definitely lighter. CA seems to shoot harder out of the box.

Budget wise, I think WELLS (version 11) is a good start for me.

The Well VSR clone are not very well made (pun intended). You will have to change the hop-up unit, as it has bad tolerance and the plastic they use for the hop-up slider will break really fast. The cylinder will bend after a few games, not all cylinders will fit well, might need some alterations to the receiver/plastic rings. The trigger unit is crap, the sears are made of soft pot metal and will wear out really fast. The hop-up rubber is unusable, it has trouble lifting .28g, and you will probably want to use .30g or .36g.

The stock piston doesn't seal well at all, it needs an o-ring change and you should drill port holes. Still won't seal well but it won't be a total train wreck. The bolt handle will last a year, maybe two, and will eventually break, because its not cast very well.

Overall, a terrible rifle. I would return it if I were you. There is a night and day difference in quality between the CA M24 and the Well VSR. Also, keep in mind that the Well VSR sells for 60-90$ in other countries, it is VERY overpriced in Canada.

I might return but the local source isn't too friendly about returns. The only concern I had with the CA is that it doesn't come with a bipod and no scope. It doesn't even have a hook/ring for a sling.

If I can't return it, I will keep it as I am not at all hardcore.

How easy is it to find parts for CA? I know WELLS parts are easier to obtain for the VSR.

Might as well play the stock WELLS until it breaks and then upgrade parts? Financially it might be more sound.

Call it an exchange, you are buying something else. ;)

Finding parts for the CA is easy, check the PDI webs store (x-fire.org), everything you need is there.

The Well is unusable stock. Your stock MP5k probably has better range and accuracy. If you really want to upgrade a VSR, start from a good base, a TM VSR 10 is the best, but a JG Bar-10 could be an acceptable base too, it's is way way way better than the Well.

Also, a bipod is not that useful, it just adds weight to your rifle most of the time. A scope is nice to have, but the scopes they ship with Well VSRs are horrible. You can pick up a way better scope for 50$ on Deal Extreme. Or even better, get the real thing, like a Bushnell hunting scope.

The CA has loops for a bipod and a sling. As well, the scope and bipod that come with the WELL are probably crap. Exchange it now!

You really don't need a bipod on a bolt. It just gets caught on everything when crawling. Slick is best.

And by the way, I forgot to mention that the sling loops on the Well VSR will rip out of the plastic stock after a few games. The plastic used to make the stock is not very durable.

Don't get fooled by people who tell you to get every upgrade available. We call those kind of rifles Lego builds and the shooter usually couldn't hit anything if their Lego gun was even tuned in the first place.

Take the time to read and learn about your gun and what is really required. Most of the time a good barrel, hop rubber, piston and at least sears (again, it depends on what you start with) gets your platform reliable. As already mentioned, use quality heavy weight bbs suitable for your fps. A .28 is a bare minimum. A good scope is a must. I've been using a bolt action rifle since I started over 7 years ago and never once used a bipod so don't let your purchase decision hang on that.

Sniper rifles take a lot of time and care to tune. Consistency is most important. Go over every piece of the gun and shim or trim out any play that you can. Make sure you clean it often, use the right lubrication.

I rarely need to switch to my sidearm. Get a basic reliable propane powered gbb and an extra mag or two. If you want to be sneaky a nbb and silencer can't be beat.

Exchange went smooth. Local source Justin took his time I deal with me again and explained/answered all my questions. Being new I think is best to stick with an AEG
So I got a m14 instead. I truly don't think I am ready to game with a sniper rifle. Thanks for your feedback and honest first hand experiences.

Looking to get a basic crosshairs magnify scope at another local source. What's good for $40-50? Should I obtain those online from the mega store?

Why do you absolutely want a scope... try gaming it with iron sight or a red dot first and see how it goes. I bet you will not be able to hit anything accurately past 25 yard with the replica bone stock.
See if it have potential for accuracy.if not you will need to upgrade it and then put a scope on it if you really want.

Bushnell make nice hunting scope that are resistant. The dont look tacticool but do the job. Around 80-100 $
On other hand tasco pronghorn at 59 $ shall be better than any shiting Chinese scope replica(event if made It's made in china..)

When I first started to play I really wanted to have a scope on my rifles too, I never got one because I realized that they are not too useful for a rifleman.

Now I don't even have irons on my current rifle, I am used to how it acts and where it puts BBs, so I shoot and watch the BB then adjust from there.

I got a basic Cyma m14 socom instead. Thanks for the recommended scopes. I might look into dot sights instead.

What should one do to prepare for a game with a new gun? Why should I clean or grease up?

How do I obtain more distance and accuracy later on?
I know Cyma isn't high end but as a beginner I would want to maximize its base potential before upgrading or getting something mid to hi end.
