Definitely would not cheap out on paint when the gun's already 50 times more expensive.
Rough up the surface so that the paint bonds better. The primer also does this but it's always good to have extra assurance that it will be good. Think of the difference between something like smooth concrete vs rough concrete. (Not the greatest analogy but imagine it at a macro level, the rough concrete should hold things better than a smooth surface which may wear faster and not hold as well).

Ideally it would be a flat or ultra flat paint instead of gloss. ie. this stuff: http://www.wfu.edu/~rollins/truck/summary/cans_2.jpeg

Although I have used the regular indoor outdoor paint to a decent paintjob (first time). But definitely if you don't want a "shiny" gun then flat or ultra flat and matte clearcoat.

And one more question, is it better to take all the internals out and do it in two halfs/pieces, or to take the internals out and the hang the body, or just tape up the barrel/bb enterence(for lack of a better word) and what not.

According to the law, the toy must be noticeably a toy from a person experienced with firearms. (COP) If not, it is considered a "replica" and is a prohibited device. Like mentioned, it can be just like speeding or smoking a doobie XD

You done have to take apart the rifle to paint it if you dont want to, but cover up any holes into the barrel.
Taking it apart gives you an opportunity to break it, but would lead to easier painting.

Lol, anyways... personally I would take the internals out before I painted by gun. Most guns are pretty easy (the dboys scar is annoying because the ambi controls) and you'll also learn how your gun goes together. If you haven't already, during this time you could try reshimming your gearbox, lubing, cleaning etc, and if you have plastic bearings, replace those... if you wanted. I just don't like the idea of paint drying some place where it'd be hard to clean, and possibly ruining performance...

you can paint it with the internals in still, just be sure to take your time taping off anything you don't want paint to get in or on. If you are careful and do your taping right you will not have any issues with performance due to paint.

How can you tell it's fully automatic just by looking at it?

You cant really.... people just like to assume base on the fact that it looks like an "Assault rifle"

If it's black and looks like it might have a tube and a pistol grip-like thing, it's an assault rifle. Never forget that.

He was being sarcastic (see the "roll eyes")

I think he was referring to the fact that if it has a synthetic body (as compared to wood) and add some rails and a bipod, a hunting rifle then becomes a fully automatic OMGWTFBBQ military assault rifle machine gun sniper.
