Instead of neoprene, what about a thin-ish piece of plastic with small holes drilled for breathing. Sew a pocket onto the balaclava for the plastic piece.
The plastic should spread the force over a greater area and not just on one specific tooth.

Plastic isn't a bad idea...and the neoprene isn't just for one tooth. I'll draw up a sketch of the idea then scan and upload...possibly even build it tonight. Just need neoprene :P *plots dollar store run* Gimme an hour or two and I'll have a pic up....

Sketches up...making my supplies run...now.

Is this what you guys envisioned when I described? Does this help? Should try the rest of the ideas out too, at some point....This gave me another idea, by the way...making a "muzzle" of sorts which would lift whatever fabric off your face a bit, thus making a mask out of anything from bandanas to balaclavas to those headwrap things that I've forgotten the name of. Just a thought.

again, not a bad idea...I've got all my materials together (mini screwdriver sets at the dollar store? Scalpels? Exactos? Damn, they're moving up in the world...) so I should be starting my build tonight.

Bit of a setback...the thread and needle I was using because of the thickness of the neoprene aren't the healthiest thing for the balaclava, which is pretty thin....too lazy to take pics. Might get something done on the weekend, at which point I'll update this further.

Maybe you should look into the neoprene biker masks. They cover the lower half of the face, and look cool. If you've seen A Man Apart it's the type of mask Vin Diesel and Demetrius Hicks use.

I have one of those. A neoprene half-face mask, that is. They're hot as hell. And sweaty. Which is why my friend got a tooth shot out. It got too hot for him and he took it off for the night op.

And when you breathe, the neoprene mask channels it up right into your goggles. I wear mine below the nose to avoid this.

Depends what's important to you. Yeah, it gets hot, but I'd rather sacrifice some comfort than risk having hundreds in dental repair or a hick-smile the rest of my life.

I'm using a 4$ mouth guard and I feel safe. It is hard to speak but who cares, I'm better at shooting.
