scope lens protectors

Hey all
I just bought a scope that comes with protection caps with transparent lenses.
Can they protect from BBs ?
or will I have to use something else?

if it's a scope not a reddot, then the lens itself with withstand bbs no problem. the 'protector', is it attached with 2 elastic things? that's only to protect from scratches, and it'll shatter when a bb impacts it.

Like Angelus said, I wouldn't worry about it as long as it's a magnified optic. As long as it's not an über-cheap scope, the convex surface of the lens should make it resistent to BB hits. I've had my Elcan replica shot in the lens many times without issue. Th e protector caps will work as scratch protectors, but will break if shot.

Red dots / holosights though have very delicate front lenses (even real steel EOTech). With those, a protector is highly recommended. One unlucky shot and you're out of an optic.

Amos makes lens protectors out of polycarbonate material. It can stop a 1000 fps, or something really high, he tested it, as him, projectile. I use them for all my scopes. they work great.

Don't worry about your scope lenses. Those protectors that come with it are just good as water and shit protector for when you are walking with the rifle. I never use them to shoot. I never use them at all. I moded mine to make a killflash for my scope.

I prefer flipup butlecreek scope caps.

Donster, are you afraid of a BB being able to shatter your scope's lens?

I wouldn't bother using those covers, at least not when actually shooting. The flip up covers are better. And as far as getting a BB in the lens of your scope, my scopes have gotten hit at times, even from close (within 100ft) and it chews the BB up and spits it out.

With a cheaply made airsoft scope, you might get a weak lens than could crack, but since it's a RS scope, you have nothing to worry about.

Can I get a little more intel on these protectors? How would I order them?

I have a Leapers Red/Green dot and have read some reports of close range shots blasting through the lens.. yikes!

Glass on those Leaper's sights is very weak. I own one of them, and it's a great little sight for airsoft or air gun use. But I've also seen 2 of them get shot out rather easily - one in CQB at the Mill, and one at Border Wars II. A protector is highly recommended.

To both of you wanting the Butler Creek flip up lens covers, you are both in cities that have Le Baron. Take the scope off your gun and go to the gun counter and they will custom fit the covers for you. Ordering online from anywhere will be like ordering a pair of shoes from out of country, you have a good risk of getting a size too big or too small. Best to have the covers fitted front and back, otherwise you will get frustrated. Nothing worse than not being able to fit a cover on, or having the cover too loose and having to use tape to secure it. Am only saying because I've tried my covers on other scopes with mixed results.
