Recycling Ammo?
Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum, and was just wondering if any fields, or people sweeped or collect spent bbs? Before I get flamed "they'll break your gun!" I'm making/made my own BBMG's similar to this guys, if you'd like to find out more about these check out spudfiles. (one of my first hobbies )
http://www.neospud.com/airsoftworks.html Ultimate Inline Mark II: Improved - Video The average rate is 80-100rps+ which can get pricey quickly. He sweeps local fields and gets 100k plus each time, I was wondering if theres a place where I could do the same? The guns internals are strong enough to handle low quality bbs and what not. That isn't an "airsoft gun" in the sense that we see them...
That's basically a tube with compressed gas being forced through it with BB's in the way... The BB's get swept up into the compressed gas and gain momentum down a barrel. I really should get off my ass and build one of these things.. I've been planning on it for years. |

Well that'd be more so a 'Cloud' gun, where like you said tube+barrel+air. lol. They're not that great, that's a 'vortex' gun, it's pretty cool how it works, I forget what the actual effect that makes it work is called. But anyways I'm making one into a old broken M4, so it doesn't look like I'm running around with home depot supplies. lol

For a second there I thought I was going to have to take a drink...
I guess you could do that. I mean it's actually quite similar in concept to the "Airsoft Flamethrower". What Amos says is true, they're not really airsoft guns per se rather they're guns that shoot air (or a gas) and anything inside gets pushed out of the way through the path of least resistance (in this case out towards of the barrel). Do it, I don't see any harm in doing it, it's not like it's a "precision" gun with a TBB and any deformities in the BB will ruin the gun.

So does anyone know about recycling BB's, or where I could collect/sweep spent BB's?

It would depend on your inner-barrel/hop-up set up.

You should be looking to indoor places like TTAC and any indoor venues that aren't paint ball. I am sure paint would fuck up even a pneumatic gun eventually.
I am sure Brian would love it if someone came in and vacuumed his place after a CAPS match!

If you are looking for free BBs, contact your local indoor places. I guess most of them just dispose of them afterwards. I'm not sure how efficient sweeping really is.
You can goto Wal-Mart and they have used/reclaimed/recycled BBs for sale though. Like 10,000 rounds for $10 or something.

You know what else.
Some people may have surplusses of .12 BB's that you could probably buy off them. Usually they buy a bottle or two of those crappy Walmart BB's with the seams on them and just don't use them because they end up buying high quality BB's. I'm sure the owners would appreciate if you went to their venue and asked if you could sweep up for them for free and just keep the spent BB's. Also I'm not sure if you can but maybe you could lower the speed that the BB's come out at. I mean 80-100 BB's/sec is a bit overkill IMO maybe if you could mod it to shoot at a more conservative 30-50 BB's/sec you could cut the running/ammo costs by almost half.

Honestly go on spudfiles, or research on google. PM if you want more info, everything you need you can grab from canadian tire, its so simple. Piper Precision sells one for 1500 or so, but you could make one for under 100. lol
