WE 1911 - Magazine problem
Hi guys!
I have a problem I think I figured but I'm not sure. I own a WE GBB 1911 with 4 mags. They were all working fine but all of a sudden, one of them broke. The problem is when I load the magazine in my pistol and cock the slide, the magazine completely empty all the propane when I fire for the first time. Even if novice I am in GBB fonction, I told myself I had nothing to lose with an already broken mag by trying to find the problem. The first thing I tried was general mag maintenance; I removed the floating valve and all of its o-ring too plunge them all in silicone oil, including the spring and the pin in the middle of that valve. I reassembled all of this, put back the floating valve back in place. Test result: "pppppppppppsssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...." again... So I decided to try something else; I did some switch between the rubber lip (if this is the correct name? Otherwise look at the picture here) of this faulty mag with a working one. It appears to be that rubber lip because whatever the mag I put it on, they start to empty the same way, meaning there's no problem with BB feeding lips entire part where rubber lip's base goes under (I supposed It could have been a crack or difformity in the plastic not allowing the lip to fully seal between the floating valve chamber and the gun). I also noticed that the top surface of that rubber lip seems to be thicker and more used than my other ones. (I'm refering to the top and bottom side of what we can see on the picture linked). But I can't figure why all the propane fully empty the first time I shoot from a thicker rubber surface... Hey, I hope it is clear enough... -mart Last edited by Mart83; July 13th, 2009 at 12:51.. |

The rubber lip is likely a red herring.
There are two basic possible faults. 1. The blowback is not happening because of some internal break down. If the blowback doesn't occur, the sear to disengage the valve hammer isn't unlocked and the mag empties itself. 2. The mag valve is broken/damaged. When the mag hammer strikes it, it locks open even after the hammer has disengaged. The mag empties itself. #1 happens if there's no blowback, #2 happens even if blowback happens. Given that there is only one problematic mag, I'm inclined to think it's #2.

Can't fix my own guns. Willing to fix yours.

did you try the other mags? not with that lip, just, any other mag, sounds like your internals are shredded, and the hammer isnt staying cocked so its just always venting the gas

The rubber is hanging up the nozzle, causing it not to retract far enough. As the slide retracts it trips the main knocker (which hits your mag valve to release gas) to cause it to reset.
Since it's not resetting...the knocker is staying out...which means your valve is staying open...which let's out all the gas. Try simply pushing the rubber (top seal) down with your thumb...squish it a bit until it looks "normal"...then try it. It might not work long...but it'll let you know if that's the issue. |

Blowback fonction still work. I played with my pistol this week-end in a pistol/shot-gun game only and it all worked flawless.
Issue #2 makes sens. But as I said, when taking that rubber lip to another mag, it start the empy the same way the other mag did... I will switch the valve with one I know that work to see if this still occur and give you result. Update: Valve works fine. Ok, we have Mag #1 that is faulty. Mag #2 work flawless. I took valve from #2 to #1 = gaz empties I took valve from #1 to #2 = correct I took rubber lip from #2 to #1 = now it works I took rubber lip from #1 to #2 = now #2 let out all the gaz I forgot to mention that I let rubber lip for 2 hours long in silicon oil just to see if it would seal better, no chance. All mag fonction flawless until I use that rubber lip. Strange... EDIT: From what m102404 described, I did take a closer look at the surface of the rubber lip. I can now see a difference: it doesn't hang out of the mag more than all the other one. It is flush with the top surface of the mag. Would this be the problem? Because if I did read correct somewhere on the vast WWW it has to hang out a little bit, right? Last edited by Mart83; July 13th, 2009 at 13:39.. |

I was implying that if the mag seats too high, or if the rubber is riding so high that it jams the loading nozzle, it can hang up the recoil of the slide.
Take the slide off. Insert a "good" mag and note how far up it sits. Then insert the "bad" mag. Also note that as similar as they appear...the manufacuring tolerances of airsoft stuff isn't always the best. Could just be a plain old lemon. Also...make sure the blow back unit in the slide is tight...not Hulk tight, just snug. They tend to work loose. Best of luck, Tys |

Blow-back unit is the black part, what is completely in the back of the slide right?
I can see inside by moving forward the part that pushes the BB in the hopup unit that there's a ring. Does it need lube maintenance too? As for the mag, I'm pretty sure it is the rubber lip. Is this part available somewhere?. Otherwise, I may need a new mag. Thank |

with the slide off, use a small drop on parts (both the slide and frame) that move and dab a little on any seals/orings. any lubrication needed internally for the blowback will be fed through the lube you introduce via your mag.
basically what I do is, if it looks like it moves, put a drop of silly oil. |

Also, thank guys for the help. I learned a bit about functionality of GBB. Now I fear I will have to buy a new mag because I can't seems to find the rubber part. At least the 3 others are working :fro: EDIT: I have found the proper name of it, it's a Magazine Lip Seal! Last edited by Mart83; July 13th, 2009 at 19:18.. |

btw, I go through a lot of q-tips to clean my GBB's prior to lubing. a clean lubed gun is less likely to jam on the field.
