ICS M16-A3 Locking in half-cock position

I have an ICS full metal M16-A3 thats about 4 years old and has seen very little use. (ICS turbo 2000 motor and nylon bushings came stock in this model) I decided to up the fps and installed a M -120 spring, but with it also intsalled some ICS copper bushings. The installation of the bushings was quite difficult and required some assitance with a socket and hammer to "pound" them into place. They all seated nicely and shimmed easilly. The mechbox is nice and tight and there is no free play in the gears, and spin with ease.

Now the problem, after firing a few times (anywhere from 5 to 25) in semi, the gun stops firing, and the gears wont release with the forward assist. This also happens in full auto but only after releasing the trigger then squeezing again, it has never stopped firing while holding down the trigger in full auto.

When I separate the two receivers, the spring releases and fires the remaining bb, and the sector gear is teeth side up, indicating it was holding the spring back about half way. After resetting the gears, the gun fires fine again until it again locks up.... Everytime it locks up, it is in the half cock position.

I've tried 3 different springs and they all have the same result. (M-100, 120 and the stock spring) With the stock spring, the gears do release with the forward assist, but the M100 and 120 require the receivers to be seperated.

Any ideas what is happening? Or have any troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks,

Jon

Hey I have almost the same problem, mine always release's with the assist button, but also "jams" after a random amount of shots. You ever get this solved?

What piston do you use, if you have a full metal piston id sugest you use a plastic 1 lighter so it comes back faster. looks like your piston is not coming back fast enouph and gears grab it back before it come back to 0 position. also see if your piston kinda stick to cylinder head might need to be cleaned, especially if it has been overgreased.

nope none of those are the issue. The gun has a systema piston head with a poly piston body. Everything was fine till the gears...I am just wondering if its underpowerd. I'm using a 3600mah but its only 8.whatever volts. I dont think its over shimmed, the gears seem to spin with very little resistance. I assume it requires more "juice" to turn those gears or am i wrong?

UPDATE
It appears it is a battery problem. Its as old as christ himself, actually about three to four years old. Was playing with it and have come to that conclusion...
