How do you replace the hop up on an AUG?
I was wondering why my friend's AUG was shooting so funny all of a sudden. It used to chrono around 400. Suddenly it was shooting 200.
So I opened it up and there was no bucking at all in the hop-up chamber. The rubber must have shredded and come out or something. What should I get as a replacement? I've checked mechbox.com but they only have instructions on removing the mechbox (which I've done many times to upgrade the internals) but I can't figure out how to take apart the barrel assembly to put a new hop-up bucking inside.

I can help you out. Do you have anything disassembled yet? I need to know what step you're at

I'm at the part where the entire front end has been taken out (so easy on an AUG, it's hilarious, but not as hilarious as how easy it is to simply drop the mechbox out the back). I'm staring at the hop up wheel on the end of the hop-up unit and everything is connected to the entire front end/barrel assembly. I've tried loosening the grub screw under where the front AUG vertical grip goes to loosen the outer barrel from the front end assembly but the whole thing is not budging. I don't know where to begin to get the actual hop-up unit out and opened up so I can replace the bucking.

Oooooh you have an A3 rail on there. I just put one on mine this year. It gets more complicated than a stock AUG.
You have to remove the A3 rail first, then take the barrel out of the receiver (the only step in a stock gun) because you can't get the barrel out of the receiver otherwise. Then it will probably become much more apparent what screws you need to take out close to the hopup. 2 screws on either side. |
