ACOG scope for M4

Hey guys,

I have to admit, im a newb at this, but after doing alot of research, I have a burning question. Im thinking about purchasing the M4 carbine (G&G GR14 R4 or the ICS A1 RIS ICS-22) with an ACOG scope. Ive seen alot of pictures online and I was just wondering, will the front sight block the view from the scope?? I prefer having a clear view when looking through the scope. Thanks for all your help guys, I appreciate it.

With the proper mount, the ACOG should be fine. If you're still uncertain, link it, and I'll take a look.

How much magnification are you thinking of getting for the scope? Read the FAQ again and it will tell you why you don't need any kind of scope (save, for a Reflex sight and RDS).

It shouldn't be a problem though if you can get the right mount. I'm not saying all guns are like mine but the front sight on my BUIS system doesn't block the RDS I mounted on it.

Just to be safe though see if you can get some measurements.

If you're talking about the front sight post, because of the magnification of the ACOG (4x) you can barely barely see a smudge of gray just below the cross hairs. Negligible at worst, I didn't even notice it until I'd had it mounted for a while.

Thanks for all your reply guys. I was thinking about mounting the G&G ACOG (http://www.mtmfg.ca/product/gg-acog-...shair-1812.cfm) for either the G&G GR16 R4 Carbine or the ICS A1 RIS. Im not sure if it will fit on the top RIS of the gun and whether the front site will block the crosshair of the scope.

Ive seen many pictures online and if u look at the gun from a sideview, the height of the front site is as high as the middle of the scope. When I look through the ACOG/RDS scope, will I be able to see the front site at no magnification and with magnication?

Is it actually better to mount the scope directly on the rail or on the carrier handle?

Thanks for your help once again

To your first question, those should fit any 20mm rail, like those found on the guns you mentioned. I've heard Classic Army is slightly weird in their sizing though.

To the second question, you should be able to use the site perfectly regardless of magnification, ideally the crosshairs should either be touching the top of the front sight post or you won't see them at all because of the focus. As for where to mount, I'd say because ACOGs are kind of low and small, either get a riser to accommodate your goggles or whatever or do as you suggested and mount on the carry handle. Really though it's personal preference.

Thanks for your reply GSK. You were very helpful. In terms of the ICS or G&G gun. Which one would you recommend? I kinda leaning towards the G&G GR16 R4 COMMANDO (since the battery is in the stock and not in another mag) or the ICS A1 RIS. I love the stock on the ICS gun since it is the M4 LE. So right now, im kinda undecided.

Btw, what does "Sports line" mean?

Sportsline is their cheaper line.

G&G Top Tech = High Quality (eg. Lexus)
G&G = Mid quality (eg. Toyota)
G&G Combat Machine = Low quality

CA = Regular line
CA Sportsline = Lower quality line but comes at a cheaper price more for newbies and such. I'm not sure but I do believe that the sportsline is plastic and not metal.

Thanks for the reply. I saw a Sportsline gun by ICS and not from Classic army, so im assuming it is still plastic.

I was on the G&G sight showing their main products here: http://b2b.guay2.com/eng_our_product/eng_p_airsoft.htm. Are the GR16 series high quality?

In doubt, switch to flip up iron sights.

Thanks for all your replies that everyone has provided. So I just want to confirm that the ACOG will fit on the guns listed above right? Furthermore, which brand of ACOG would you recommend? Im looking for something that is metal and sturdy. Thanks

Well it's not like you're going into a real combat situation, so real steel although good, probably is a bit over the top IMO.

I'd personally look for a good china clone (hey, some of them are actually pretty good copies). There are some retailers who sell optics and all that so once you get AV'ed you'll be able to find a tonne of optics from retailers and the classifieds. Failing that, if you "want nao" then go either check a local army surplus store or a hunting store.

Also Huang's store in Oriental Centre I believe is a good place to go for parts and gears. If he's not there I believe he lives 5 minutes away so give him a call.

I'm pretty noob at this whole thing, but if you want the look of an ACOG and don't want to spend $400+ for an authentic Trijicon model, hit up eBay. It's pretty easy to find replica ACOG scopes from anywhere between $70-$95, although I'm not too sure of the quality.

The one he pointed out was a G&G.
And real ACOG are 1500$+ USD.

Like Surebet said, If you are worried about seeing your Front sight then buy a Flip up front sight and you sure wont have any problems with that!

I run an ACOG on top of my carry handle on a GR16 and also puchased a doc sight from Huang for above the ACOG. Its a bit high but as was stated its all a matter of personal preference. I believe HUang sells the ACOG with doc sight for about 170 or just the ACOG for about 130 and they are 4x32 magnification.
