Inner/Outer Barrels?

I keep seeing threads about people installing new inner barrels for their weapon of choice.

I can't seem to quite understand the purpose of these, though, but a lot of people seem to like to have them installed. What exactly is the difference between different kinds of inner barrels, and what is the general idea of what they are supposed to do?

Also, I sometimes see people talking about outer barrels. I haven't got a clue about what these are, or what they are even for.

Just looking for some advice on what they are for future upgrades on my own gear.

Thanks

the inner barrel is the actual 6mm barrel that the 6mm BB passes through, the outer barrel is what goes around it and is made to look like the actual barrel on the gun that the aeg/gbb is meant to replicate.

Tightbore inner barrels are available that are a smaller diameter, in order to provide a tighter seal and achieve better accuracy as well

Your outer barrel is the barrel that would reprisent the true barrel of your gun (I.E. the part you see). Your inner barrel is within the outer barrel (surprised?) and is usually made of brass. The inner barrel is the one in which the BB will actually travel down. The resaon people swap or upgrade barrels can vary, but is usually to change the lentgh, or to change the bore. The bore of a stock barrel is roughly 6.08mm. With many BB brands having tolerances of +-.02mm means that the barrel can be of even lower diameter bore, which increases the velocity, and is in many respects a very easy upgrade.

For inner barrels, what would be the difference between a stainless steel inner barre, a brass inner barrel, and an aluminum inner barrel?

The difference is the material used the make the barrel. What you're looking for in inner barrels isn't so much the type of metal, but the diameter.
