IPSC CAPS - Specific Guns & Rules
Well for those who are CAPS curious I hear quite a few questions from the venue I play at as well as a few questions myself. I am waiting for the next Qualifier hoping its on a good day other than midterms or exams
Sorry Tyson I deleted my messages from your super CAPS FAQ that I had. Some people ask me what the best gun but I really don't know I'm not even certified yet :S Though I remember asking Tys what the best CAPS gun I think you said the TM Hicapa 5.1 is the best even better than the TM Hicapa 4.3? Because of better accuracy and better gas expansion in the 5.1 mags? |

I can only recommend the TM Hi-Capa 2011 line of pistols, not only because of their huge gas reservoirs, but because of the endless number of upgrades possible.
Then again... I'm extremely biased... but I suppose the variety in my collection is proof to that last statement. In any case, if you break a part, chances are, you can get a replacement. In Hong Kong and most of Asia and all other countries doing "Action Air" or "Action Shooting" (the new names as coined by IPSC), the 2011 type pistol is the most dominant pistol you will see on the scene, comprising of about 90% of all pistols on the scene. In the past, Western Arms 2011 pistols ruled the scene with no exception, but they have been phased out by Tokyo Marui thanks to a better hop up design, cheaper upgrades, cheaper magazines, and TONS more easily accessible and replaceable parts. In fact, out of the box, the 2011 type pistol has so many advantages, that it is not even allowed to shoot in the Production Division and has to automatically step up to the Standard Division. It doesn't really matter the length, whether you get the 4.3 or the 5.1. It's not hard to convert the gun to either/or. It just depends where you want to start off with, especially if your budget is tight. The 5.1 does have a *slightly* larger magazine with an extended magazine bumper, but the 4.3 magazine is still better than most other GBB mags out there. Also, consider that the 5.1 comes with ambi safety levers, whereas the 4.3 is single-sided. There are times in IPSC when you'll need to shoot with the left hand, and it may be faster to unlock the pistol from that hand. Buy that Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa. And then afterwards, give me money for upgrades.

Steve,
TM Hicapa 5.1 hands down. #1 Join CAPS - keep your eyes peeled for the qualifier sessions...their posted along with the practices in the Games/Events Ontario section. They're usually tagged in Brian M's "This week at TTAC3"...or there might be a separate thread (depends on who sets it up). - You must PM in advance with your full name so we can prepare the range/qualification badges. That CAPS ID tag is your passport to all CAPS events....don't have it = you can't shoot the matches/tournaments. There's too many people that come out to these events to remember everyone's names/faces (although we try! ) #2 Don't sweat the gear/pistols/etc... You need - shooting/protective glasses - $25 - enough smarts to learn what you'll be taught Ideally you have the following as well: - belt mounted holster (drop legs are not permitted) - pistol (GBB only, no EBB/NBB) - 2 magazines - bbs - gas Don't sweat it if you don't think you have everything. Confirm attendance, post up what you don't have and we'll do our best to cover you off for the qualifier. Appetite optional...we usually spring for food at the QS. There is a complete CAPS forum, where all the rules, additional info, stats, etc.....are posted. We will NOT be reposting the rules here. Want to know what CAPS is all about...JOIN NOW. |

CAPS Qualifier Sessions & Practices
***JUST A NOTE ABOUT QUALIFIER SESSIONS***
In all likelyhood we will be running a QS regularly, probably once a month. The demand is there...we're catching up on the organization side. However, I do not want to disuade anyone from coming out to CAPS...non-qualified shooters are welcome to participate at the CAPS practice sessions. If you are just checking things out and/or are not CAPS certified yet...you will be sponsored by a CAPS member for the evening. Practices consist of: - skills warm up - focus points - gun tech/testing/sighting-in/etc.. - simulated match with as many Courses of Fire (COF) that we can get in before it gets too late. Then we retire to the clubhouse and lie about how well we shot and bitch about how badly our pistols shoot... |

Although most people are running TM high Cappas .. some run GLOCKS,(KSC) a couple run P226 ( tm) and one is running a M9, (kjw I think) any GBB can be used ... Some people go for the highly modified "race gun" look ( and performance) Me I prefer bone stock combat grade..

It's either a TM M92 or a KJ M92 (he has both).
He's one of the strongest shooters we have, and to give you a bit more perspective...Techobo (stock TM 226) and Brian M (stock TM 5.1) almost cleaned everyone's clock last night in the head-to-head steel challenge.........almost |

Proving.. that you don't need a race gun to race... Stock out of the box works just fine.

IN FACT...all the "tuned" Hicapas there last night (my own included) shot less accurately than the stock pistols. Driver error might have been a significant factor...but there was a lot of sighting in (and where'd my front sight go?) on the part of 2/3rds of the "race" guns.
Those who are fact based will note...that a shooter with a race pistol did indeed sweep the head-to-head match... Whether they want to say that it was because of the pistol or because of the shooter...it's all win-win... |

I can get the close poppers, but when I try to shoot poppers on left or right side of the room, I can't hit it. I wish I had those laser bore sighters thingy where you stick the laser in the barrel and it will be easier to adjust the reflex sight. |
