opening up the receiver of a KWA M4A1
So I have a simple question to a problem that is driving me nuts. I just got my first AEG which is a KWA M4A1 and me being an inquisitive person I tried opening it up to get into the guts but the receiver halves seem to be stuck together. Yes I removed the take down pin and it opens about 1/4 - 1/2 of an inch but no further. Is there a trick to it or what? This situation makes me feel like a bit of a dumbass. I can completely field strip a real steel C7 with my eyes closed but I can't open the receiver of a bloody airsoft gun.

Fire the gun in semi a few times then try, it worked for me. Also, Airsoft is allot different that any RS. If you haven't worked on a mechbox and have no experience, then leave it alone.

I'll give that a try, thanks. Oh and I won't be touching the mechbox unless I absolutely have to and even then I still won't. I have a nasty habit of having spare parts left over when I take something apart. I just wanna crack 'er open and see what it's all about.

If yours is one of the ones with a battery in the front do the following:
1. Dry fire the rifle 2-3 times on semi...that will put the piston mostly forward, and it'll clear any bbs in the hopup. 2. Take out the battery 3. Open the fuse assembly (black tube thingy). Unplug the lead from the fuse holder. 4. Knock out the rear pin all the way...(sometimes they're really stiff, use an allen key or punch) 5. Kock out the front pin all the way...this one can be really stiff 6. Now lift the rear of the upper up so that the rear tabs clear the lower receiver. It should come apart now. NOTE: When pulling the two halves apart...go slow. If you yank it, you'll probably rip off the connectors that slip through the front of the upper (just under the barrel) that go to the battery/handguard. From that part on...it comes apart just like a TM M4/773/M16...check mechbox.com for those steps. Best of luck. Tys |

Well if you're willing to learn and mechanically inclined I would say go for it. This isn't rocket science. There's not a lot of permanent damage you can do, just be careful, read some guides and watch some videos so you kind of have an idea before hand and take your time.
