Semi alternates 1 shot semi, then auto

I've got a JG M4. There is a very strange pattern to shooting. When on safe, the trigger is safe. When on auto, the gun shoots auto. When on semi, it will alternate between semi automatic and fully automatic. This isn't a freak occurrence, it happens every time.

So I've ruled out things like too much grease screwing up connections, or stripped wires sometimes making contact. Fire selector, selector plate, and all parts in the gearbox look to be in good condition, and switching from safe to semi to auto seems fine, with a very normal click.

I think it has something to do with that little latch in the gearbox that interacts with the selector plate and gear (sector?), that seems like more of a mechanical thing that would be more regular. I added some lube to that piece to make sure it moves nicely, and ensured it's not too tight/loose.

Any suggestions?

Alex

It's called the cut-off lever, and yes that may be the problem.

I'm a full time gun tech here in Calgary, and I have nothing but bad things to say about the cut off levers in a bunch of the JG guns that I have worked on.

This is actually a fairly common problem that has come across my work bench, and a new cut off lever has consistantly been the solution.

If you have a spare cut off lever hanging around, toss it in. If not, wait till Airsoft Parts Canada re-stocks and then get one from them.

One more thing I should add, sometimes when I pull the trigger now, I get clicks/half wind ups. That only happens the odd time, and is fixed by pulling the trigger a couple more times.

Someone has suggested to me that it could also be the switch assembly. Does this sound more like a switch assembly problem, or cut off lever?

I occasionally have something happen to my CA M15 rifle. I'll shoot in full auto just fine. I switch to semi, and it will still fire in full auto. Switching to safe or auto and back to semi fixes that for me every time though. It does't happen very often.

That was happening to my kraken after i reshimmed it, just make sure the cutoff switch is moving clean and isnt sticking

could it be a weak cutoff lever spring? My JG used to act up in just this way, i pulled the box apart and installed metal bushings and stretched the cutoff lever spring a little bit and it never did it again.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try stretching/replacing it before I buy a new lever. Haven't had the time to open it again yet.
