MechBox Testing

Ok I am new to tearing into mechbox's I have learned all on my own and in some hard ways but can I test my mechboxes out of the gun casing itself. I broke down finally and got XT to do my shimming. Once I got it back from them I gave her the first test shot expecting a nice burst and was met with nothing. Looked into it figured out my main reciever body was broken so I figured meh no biggy popped the mech box out of the gun hooked it back up and pulled the trig and nothing happened, piled up instantly. now think its just a bad shim job or can I not fire the box out of the receiver ( Its a TM ak 47 mech v3 with a 120 hurricane kit in it, bat is a 8.4v 1800 mah)? As well if the motor is old would it not crank my 120m spring?

any help is much appreciated cheers

try a 9.6v battery. 8.4 seems a little weak for a 120 spring.

A 1800 mAh 8.4V should work fine with an M120. I run mine with an 8.4V 1500 mAh

Yah see thats what I was told I will give a 9.6 a shot but really an 8.4 should push it especially with the kit. think my motor could be old and worn out...? I can manage to get the piston to cycle all the way back but it SEEMS to be jamming on the last tooth as if theres not enough juice to puch it past....

if your mechbox does nothing when you pull the trigger.

-check the battery is hooked up properly
-check if the battery has voltage
-check fuse
-check for crimps in the wires
if everything is fine check voltage at the motor, chances are your motors toast.

if you can get the gears to cycle the piston back and then everyhthing locks up.
-your piston may not be aligned to the rails in the mechbox
-your box was shimmed by a monkey

at this point its time to rip it open and have some fun

Poor shimming seems probable as I've seen an 8.4 1100mah battery do 400fps on standard gears. However it only does semi with the first 20% of the battery, and if you stop at a point where the spring is compressed it jams and you need to hookup a more powerful battery to get it going again lol
Sounds like your in winnipeg, lots of competent gunsmiths outside of XT! Are you on the MAA forums?

Do they only have one gunsmith at XT? I have talked to Bryan a couple times, and he did some work on my mechboxes a couple times too.

no bash to anyone at xt i play there all the time. I am on the maa website cactus under the same name. as for wiring I am competent on that and no problems there, as for shimming it was shimmed by a gunsmith not a monkey lol. the battery is full i even re wired it for a larger connector and tried my other bat and still nothing , the rails seem to be linning up fine. I figured brush set in motor so i think ill jsut buy motor ( anyone got a tm ak style one lol?) and if that dont fix it well scrape parts are always useful lol. and as for gunsmithing i am trying to learn my own stuff here as i have a couple mode projects on the way. but I might be in need of a smith to put together a system 1 j turbo set into an mp5 setup lol.

You can fire it outside of the gun, it just has to have the lower receiver on it otherwise you cant line up the motor properly.

its a v3 so motor alignment isnt a problem, it will fire fine out of the gun.
