FYI I used to own a STAR L85A1 w/ SUSAT and I found the eye relief to suck. I didn't like how I had to put my face really close to the scope, which blocked my peripheral vision.

I had that scope too and it is really not functional with goggles on. You have to press right up against the scope and even then your field of view is very narrow. You'll end up using the back up iron sights on top more often.

Just for skladfin -
There are atleast four different rail types: Weaver, Picatinny, PCAP and Dovetail. The SA80, uses dovetail, which is a completely different style from the rest. http://www.siskiyou.com/MDRSeries.htm Picatinny and weaver, have different dimensions. On picatinny rails, the slot is 5mm while on weavers, it is 3.8 mm PCAP (Picatinny combat attachment points) have, in my knowledge only been used on the XM8 Assault rifle.. They are the oval shaped holes on the forearm, which in the below picture are below the carrying handle and perfectly inline with the inner barrel

I've looked through a real SUSAT scope, and the reticule is kind of annoying to aim with. I guess both reticules are similar, so I'd have to suggest an ACOG scope. STAR makes one, I think.

susat = suckserez
i dont like mine, it is NOT picatinny, its dove tail, i (as Branson said) i use the iron sights uptop more often. i actually took it off the other weekend. i found the gun lighter (obviously) and unbelievably less akward and easier to wield. before the susat made the gun top heavy an akward, you fought to keep it upright it caused constant strain on my forearm and wrist, and as its been stated the eye relief is ghey. definatly wouldnt reccommend it except for the l85 and only for the nostalgic look. otherwise i strongly reccommend the g&p acog (4X) it has great sight picture, fov and iron sights atop. it too has a narrow eye relief, but its not as bad as the susat. and aside from the acog, the new g&p elcan hasa beautiful sight picture, eye relief and fov, only thing is it goddamn ugly (imo) and is almost as big as your gun lol, but itsa good scope! |
