TM M1911A1 problem
I recently got my new Tokyo Marui M1911A1 and had about half a day of test-firing and enjoyment until something went wrong. I try and fill it with gas and it vents like mad and I can only get like 8 shots off before it quits on me as well as releasing a huge amount of gas the first shot and less amounts afterwards. The first few magazines worth of shots performed flawlessly, but eventually stopped working nearly as well as it should. I've been filling it properly with a make-shift butane adapter, upside down, for only 3 seconds a mag-fill whilst adding a tiny amount of TM Silicone maintenance oil spray. I've been using "Falcon Dust-Off" containing Difluoroethane. It could be something totally different, but I'm sure it has something to do with the seals atleast. I'll comment on the performance of the duster gas containing tetrafluoroethane after I receive two new magazines in a week or so.

So firstly, wrong section. Next, you got a gun when underage, thanks for breaking several of our rules all at once. Read about GBB care in the threads already written on the subject. 3 seconds is not much. |

Its possible that you ran down the pressure of the can after a half a day of test firing. Alternately I dont believe Difluroethane can provide the nessessary pressure that 134a offers to drive the action smoothly and consistently.

You also don't mention anything about lube. If the seals on your mags are dry then you'd get what you're experiencing. You may have to take your mags apart to "re-hydrate" your seals properly at this point.

Alright, I realized that there were different types of duster gases a little late. I mentioned that I used this can of TM Silicone Maintenance Oil Spray for the oiling of the mag, not sure if that's the same as lubing. Also, how would I go about re-hydrating the seals, soaking them in silicone oil or some such?

I guess I missed reading that in your original post. I've run difluoroethane in a couple of GBB's as a last-ditch resort and didn't experience what you're getting. I've always been under the impression that difluoroethane will only eat the rubber in your seals after prolonged use although I'm willing to be wrong there.
The problem you described could have been caused by insufficient lube but I now don't think that's the case. When you say the mag "vents like mad" is this during filling? If you're using a home-made butane adaptor they're not very durable so the nozzle tip is probably not mating with the fill valve on your mag quite as well as it did on your first fill. Most mags will benefit from being filled longer if you're using duster although the TM 1911 mags are quite small. Also allow some time for the mags to come to room temperature before you use them. At the minimum hold the mag in your hand until it is no longer uncomfortably cold. |

Yes, the mag eventually started to vent gas as I was filling it. The interesting thing about this is that I eventually tried propane to see if that was any different, with my AI propane adapter. The gas would still vent as though more gas was coming out of the magazine than going in. I forgot to mention that as the problem got worse, I became worried and left the magazine alone for about 10 minutes after filling it to warm it up each time. Also, whatever made it do what it's doing, must be something major since this all happened in a span of two days starting when I got the gun, brand new.

3 seconds sounds like it's not enough time to get a full fill. You should be holding the gas there till it starts to spurt out. If you don't put enough gas in, the pressure will be too low to cycle through an entire magazine. If the pressure is too low, the slide may not be pushed too far back to release the hammer from the valve - and that's where you're experiencing all the gas blowing out.
As for the mag venting gas as you fill it, mags have a tendancy to get loose over time and begin to vent gas. Listen to where it's venting from - if it's not coming from either the fill or release valve, it's most likely coming from the seal areas. You can usually fix this problem by just tightening the screw that holds the mag/seals together. This problem is more prevalent when you use duster due to the frequent minor expansion/contraction of all the parts in the magazine from the cold duster. Duster gets colder faster than propane will. |

Alright, thanks guys for your help eh. I'll comment back on this once I get a couple of new mags.

why do you need new mags? Just screw yours tighter like I just mentioned...

I have only one magazine for it anyway, the one that came with the gun.

Alright, so my two new mags came, and i'm using them with propane with the AI Version 4 propane adapter. Besides the gas venting somewhat from the seals when filling, it seems to be working fine. I'm guessing that the screw by the magazine needs to be tightened or I just need to finely tune my gbb magazine-filling, i'm not sure. Nothing wrong with the gun, thankfully (not yet anyways, since it is propane i'm using) so, a word of advice, i guess, would be that duster gas with Difluoroethane is not the way to go.
