What Radio to Buy
After a year of playing airsoft i've decided to pull the trigger and grab myself a proper radio set up.
It seems rather expensive so i'm looking to get some information on what radios and radio accessories will work (for airsoft purposes.. woodland games) The model i see the most are the PUXING 888 (UHF/VHF ~$100) but i know nothing about radios so was wondering can i get something cheaper then this but will provide the basic features. Whatever i get will need to be compatible with this Puxing model. Also i wear a full face mask so headsets and mic accessories are limited. What will work for full face mask set ups? I was leaning towards one of those big round PTT buttons but not sure about ear piece.... Would it be possible to get everything for ~$100? |

Short answer no.
You CAN get a radios for less but it's not worth it they either don't have the range or the features you would need. Get a -888. Buy well Buy once. PTT for a cheap one that's not inline (Bowman etc you're looking at another $100 at least) Get something like a bowman or a swimmers headset then put the radio on then the mask. You can do it the other way too but results may vary. Also down the road look into a good PTT set up. It's REALLY helpful. Oh and for the love of god don't get a blisterpack motorola radio.

A ptt and head set will not cost another $100 at least it would be $100 AT MOST if you're buying replica stuff. $30 for headset maybe $30 for ptt. There aren't many headsets or ear pieces that are low profile or even security profile. I used a Cavalvy (not replica) TOTO II which was an elite 2 style, worked well and was fairly slim.

The Puxking 888 is a GREAT radio, pretty much the only one I recommend.
You could try to get an acoustic tube type earpiece, those are pretty lo profile. Make sure whatever you get has a kenwood 2 pin connector on it since that is what the 888 takes.

wouxun kg uvd1p or the puxing 777, or 888 are what i recommend
i use a wouxun kg uv3d but its max transmit band is limited so i had to hack it in order to bring it up to par with the uvd1p for headsets, i wear mesh face mask, and a simple and cheap ztactical single ear headphone and microphone work fine, i stuff the mic under the mask though it takes some getting used to wearing recently though ive been using the tri comtac 3 noise cancelling/amplification headset, its not as cheap as others but its wonderful i would advise against throat mics in general, they tend to be hit and miss and are quite uncomfortable. |

I found two puxing 888's brand new for 150$ plus 10shipping.
You can get them from 80-100$ if you look around.

wearing a mask a throat mic is an option as well.
I can recommend the puxing 777 or 888, wouxun uvd1p, or a linton 6800+. having something thats dual band is one of the best options i can recomend, it allows you to monitor more than one channel at a time, great for large games with multiple channels per team, or small ones to monitor your team channel and the admin channel. |
