Electrical issues.....

I had my gun put back together and it was firing fine.

However....

It would fire once I plugged the battery and not touching the trigger.

I took it apart and cleaned the trigger connection.

Put it back together and again the same thing.

So I tested it as it took it apart this time.

With the pistol grip off and the motor out it still continued to fire once the battery was connected.

But when I took the gearbox apart it didn't

Kinda confused.....

This is puzzling, somehow the circuit must be completed for the motor to get power. I'm guessing that you have a multimeter or some way to check -that the motor leads are getting power and if i interpreted your post correctly... as soon as you open the gearbox it stops. When it's together does the trigger feel correct? Is The little spring that pulls the "copper wedge" back in place? Is there any chance a frayed wire is causing this gremlin? If you can try pushing the wires , trigger ,etc while it is open to mimic their position when closed and watch for power to your motor contacts. Hope this helps

I did put the gearbox back together with only the trigger assembly in play and it worked fine. No wires are frayed near the trigger, one is close to where the motor goes in but I have used shrink tubing on that spot.

Unfortunately I don't have a multimeter.

Beats me lol Are there any arc marks on the gearbox, or on the disconnect lever?

Nope, looked for those too.

Well I'm glad this stumps somebody else too.

the only thing i can think of is make sure the contact spring isnt coming off when trying to put it back together . does it go full auto when you plug the battery in? or does it quickly stop?

You may have pinched one wire while closing the gearbox causing the short. Realy carefully inspect every wire for damage to the Wires plastic coating for any sort of damaged. If a gen 2 box the trigger or return spring might be interfering with the contacts.

Yup. instant fire upon battery connects results from a short bypassing the switch, acting like if you were pulling the trigger. You may either check for pinched wires as vondnik stated, or order a new trigger switch wiring.

K, a pinched wire makes the most sense right now.

What would be the best way to make sure they are in place?

Paying attention while closing the gearbox, sometimes the wire ways are tight and the wire stucks in them, so they don't come loose.
