|
WE M16 Bolt stuck half way
Probably a really easy fix seeing as I just got the thing...
The bolt won't advance past half way forward when the charging handle is pulled, though it has smooth travel up until halfway into the chamber. Any idea what might be causing this? Thanks in advance! |

Is it an open chamber or closed version?

Check your buffer tube retaining pin. If it has unscrewed it can cause exactly the problem you are experiencing if you use a closed bolt system.

It's an open bolt RA-Tech custom, brand spanking new.
I also can't get the receivers separated, seeing as the bolt is stuck between the buffer tube and the reciever. Last edited by Debrief; October 29th, 2011 at 15:49.. |

Wait, is the bolt stuck in the forward or rear part of the receiver?

Rear part, It won't close the last inch or so.

I don't have one in front of me right now. But I'm wondering if the hammer slipped off the sear and is in the forward position. (up)
Can you pull the bolt back and confirm the hammer is still cocked (down)

Can you post a pic, you have me confused now. If its stuck in the rear or the receiver you should be able to open the gun.

If you can split the upper and lower a tiny bit, you might able to reset it by playing with the hammer so it goes forward or try and remove the buffer tube all together and see if you can reset it through there.

The hammer is still cocked (The gun will allow the safety to be engaged)

Pull out the front and rear pins, this may give the bolt enough release to return to the normal position. If not I suggest removing your buffer tube (be careful of the spring). That also may give your bolt a little freedom. Infact I suggest removing the buffer before the pins.
Try that and let me know.

I managed to get it to seat with a couple extra racks.
It looks like the problem might be the buffer retaining pin is too high. I noticed it's base (a threaded screw) is sticking too high up, such that the buffer is being stopped by the base, and not by the pin. How do I push the base back in, seeing as there is no where for a screwdriver? -That was a stupid question. Pliers. Last edited by Debrief; October 29th, 2011 at 18:31.. |

You can put a very small screw driver in there one the pin is down. Its a pain in the ass to do.
