A couple questions about buying from Toronto Airsoft

First, do I need to be AV'ed before buying from them, or can I just bring my ID?

Second, I do not know what gun to pick out of these 2.

If you're of age, you can buy from them without a sweat, I'm pretty sure they do check for ID.

Both are alright as starters, but I would probably go for the JG just for the sake of modularity, I'm not a fan of M4's by all means, but they're the most common AEG out there, and that being a Marui clone makes it all that much easier to convert it into a full metal AEG and upgrade it in the future. ICS tends to be a bit unforgiving in that sense.

Though, Keep in mind, price does reflect quality and durability in some cases. If you can, you could always save up for something along the lines of VFC or G&P.

I don't plan on upgrading the gun that I buy, as I think I will buy a higher quality gun, if I get into airsoft.

In terms of raw performance and quality right out of the box, which is better?

Quality out of the box? I'd have to go with ICS

Performance? ICS as well, but ICS guns are proprietary so it's slightly more expensive and harder to find replaceable parts
Being that JG is a clone of TM and an armalite, parts and such are incredibly easy to come by

Going along with that^ elaborate post, you also have to think about youre going to play. CQB only? the ICS is the best option, maybe field as well. The JG is an all around gun, definitely for field, also good for CQB depending on your set up

I've seen mp5's out shoot m4's. real steel the round difference would put those two in separate classes, but remember we all shoot the same size ammo *less the 8 mm crowd* and we are all roughly around the same FPS *less the snipers*. So get something that is easy for you to use.

they both use a V2 mechbox, I think that ICS might be the split box... velocity arms is being gay and not letting me load the page again.

Really the "shell" of an airsoft gun has no bearing anymore on the actual use of the gun. Hell I have used a p90 and PPSH very effectively in the woods... the DSR is a little unwieldy in CQB granted lol.

As long as you are 18 with ID to prove it and have the money, they dont care if you have an ASC account (you might want to mention it as some give discounts). I would also suggest ICS, but at very least make your first gun an M4 or similar (get a rifle not a SMG). SMGs (MP5) are great but not recommend as a first gun. I would say stay away from the SMG for now get yourself a nice rifle (AEG dont get GBBR for first gun), learn your gun, learn the parts, how it works, how to take it apart, the terms people use. Once you are comfortable and have your feet wet you can start building your collection or change to something else. As stated above ICS is proprietary and can be hard to find (battery), however it works well out of the box, no mods or dicking around just toss in your proprietary battery and start shooting.

Either is good and both have their own merits but if I were you I'd go with the M4. ICS is definitely nice with the split gearbox design but it also takes proprietary parts like other posters have said. That said, I believe there are some parts that are common to the "traditional" TM based gearbox design but I would say probably less than 80% cross compatible (although some people have said there are 3 main parts that are proprietary and you must get from ICS).

Just go with the traditional tried and true design so that you can gut parts from other parts guns and such and you have something "reliable". Then when you feel ready to take it on get something else. (ie. Start off with an AEG, then maybe transition to a GBB or GBBR keeping the AEG in your trunk at games in case your GBBR goes down or in case someone needs a rental gun or something).

Also all you need is ID proving you're 18+ the AV system is only internal to this site and has no legal bearing whatsoever. We've just chosen to implement this system as one of those precautionary things. Outside of the site we can't control and only in Ontario is it law that you must be 18+ for airgun purchase (includes paintball, BB, pellet, airsoft, etc.). Other retailers (ie. Canadian Tire) may have a blanket 18+ policy across the country even though they're not legally obliged to elsewhere.
