Marzen L96A1 Mag Well Broken
Hello,
This may simply be an end-of-life issue but I figured I try here before retiring the old girl. The issue is that, the metal tab that makes up the forward portion of the mag well (this is the part that has the spring tap that keeps the mag in place) snapped off from the barrel with the retainer screw still in the hop-up unit. I can get the screw out but the process will probably result in a larger hole and I wouldn't have any hardware to put back in its place. Any Ideas?

You can send it to me... I certainly would not refuse a free rifle.
But on a serious note, all my L96s had that issue. You can open up the body and make a guide for the mag catch to stay. Basically, you need to build a set of rails to hold the catch in place front/back. Then make a stop at the bottom to keep it against the barrel. I used some scrap plastic and JB weld. I also used a piece of rubber foam for the stop so that the catch was resting firmly against the barrel. On top of removing all the stress from the little screw, you get a more positive snap in place and ejection because the catch is always perfectly aligned with the rear portion (vs slightly pushed at the bottom by the catch spring). BUT If you want to retire your rifle, let me know... |

What makes you think I would not like it again... Damn that rifle was shooting great.
You can order a new hop-up unit... they run for about 90$. With the added rail mod, the screw won't break unless you hit the catch when the gun is disassembled. You can also try to remove the old screw properly and tap some 4-40 SAE threads in there. I don't remember if I did it already. It is a bit larger than the original 3mm hole, so it should grab. And finding a decent stainless screw will be easy. Just don't over tight and you will be good. Seriously, PM me if you ever want to get rid of it. |

I still want to fix it. I have an Polygon L96 hop-up in there now. The issue is that a larger screw would interfere with the mag when it is inside unless I can find a countersunk.
