Use of connectors?
Hey there everyone!
I've try to look for this but couldn't find an answer, just people beating around the brush... Anyways, my question is: What's the deal with different types of connectors?... There is the "mini" type, and I just got a battery with "large" type, then when I'm researching, I found "dean" type?!?! Why are there so many different once?! AND WHAT ARE THEY FOR?!... I just got a gun that uses large type connectors... Which I don't have a charger for!!!! Where should I look for that type of connectors?... If there's a link that will answer all my question, I'd love to visit it. But could you still dumb it up for me?... I'm going CRAZY after spending 2 hours looking for a simple answer!.. |

Different guns come with different connectors, it depends on the make and brand. The 3 that are really used in airsoft are Large Tamaya, Mini Tamaya and Deans.
You should switch everything you own to Deans, as they are the best And then you'll only have one type of connector to worry about.

Little to no resistance as opposed to large (which aren't bad) and mini (which are horrible).
Less resistance means longer battery life (less mAh per shot consumed) and abilility to pull a stronger spring (and therefore also higher rate of fire with the same spring). |

high current flow. Electronics and electrical devices only work as fast as the slowest bottleneck, so the more current that goes through your connector quickly the better

Make your own. Or get someone to make you some.
Batteries don't come in "Deans". It's easy to change the connector. |

You can get some batteries in Deans, G&P crane stock batteries come with (not official, but damn good) Deans style connectors. You can also get deans on custom packs from www.cheapbatterypacks.com (if you do an order, do a group order, free shipping over 200USD i believe).
And on the "better" note, they're also significantly more durable and less fussy than tamaya connectors.

Deans also won't work themselves apart, as Tamiya have been known to do. They stay together much better. Also, because they have little resistance, they don't get hot like small connectors will.

Re: Use of connectors?
M4/M16's with full stocks typically have both mini and large connectors because of an adapter extension. (but could be both large or both small) Switch the mini out with a mini deans so that it can still pass through the receiver when working on the mechbox. With MP5 full stocks I just rewire with a full length wire with a deans on the end. So either eliminate the "adapter" or upgrade the adapter connectors.

There is so many different sizes of wiring for the deans connector, which would you recommend?... Like which from 12-22AWG Wire would best suits? Last edited by highny; July 3rd, 2010 at 22:31.. |

If you're making a mini, then 18awg or 16awg. If you're making a large, then 16awg or smaller number.

Generally, go with the smallest gauge (biggest wire) you can. A thicker wire (lower gauge) means less resistance. I generally use 16 gauge and find it to be bendable enough to get it into tight places, and still have low enough resistance that it doesn't heat up.
