We were improperly defining the classes before. It's not defined by barrel length, it's defined by overall pistol size.

Even if you had a 5" outer barrel, the box would prevent the use of most cocking levers, optics and also limits shooters from having a bucket as an 'enlarged mag well'....

In Hong Kong, before they started following IPSC rules, they were making their own classifications for the divisions and they generally allowed 6" outer barrels in to Standard Division. This is where the initial idea stemmed from, but upon further discussion, that idea was nixxed. The reason why it was even considered was because there were many clubs in Hong Kong that allowed 6" guns. The new ruling will change the game, and although there will be some complainers, the shooters and their guns will eventually adapt.

For the sake of uniformity and to remove that slight performance edge, the IPSC rule pushes pretty much all 6" barrel pistols in to Open Division (unless you have a very short or strangely shaped grip & receiver...)

Then you cannot be in the production division.

Or you can shoot Open and save yourself the trouble and buy one of Brian W's custom Hicapa.
From my understanding, he can't be in the Production Division regardless of whether he has the stock sights or an aftermarket open sight. 1911 and 2011 pistols are banned from that division due to the level of modification they are capable, plus ease of shooting and other major competitive advantages they have over other guns such as Sigs, Glocks, etc.

All 1911s and 2011s automatically shoot in Standard Division. Internally, you can have them modded to huge performance advantages - none of them can be checked on the range without taking apart the entire gun and taking calipers to the parts. The shooter may not even have to spend a single cent outside of the initial purchase of the gun to modify it to markedly increased levels of performance.
To ease the burden of checking guns, these pistols in particular are automatically considered "Standard Division" pistols.

Although technically, all pistols can get some pretty extreme trigger jobs performed, the amount of work that a Sig or Glock requires is too much for most shooters and even 'smiths to consider. And the shooters that do try it end up screwing up the job and end up with a full-auto pistol or a paperweight.

Well I guess its open division for me, unless I track down a regular M92 slide and outer barrel that fits my pistol, then I can multi-class it!

But realistically, you can get some shock buffers to take the edge off the impact on your plastic slide. I have some coming in.
Oh Shock Buffers I am interested.

I like Metal slides but every time I put one on theres always problems and I always end up in the Doctors corner ravaging people for a solution. Probably my biggest is the outer barrel to metal slide match since over time it wears down some of the parts because of the constant bashing of improper alignment and then an overhaul must be done.

That's because you keep buying crappy Guarder ones... lol

There are things that can be done to prevent the slide/barrel mash up...

Viking runs a 1911...I think Nierbee does too (but he always seems to have a different pistol each time...). Disco Dante shoots one too.

It's completely good and very competitive to shoot the 1911 at CAPS.

I want to put the Hicapa thing to rest...it's the person and not the tool that makes a good shooter.

One of our best shooters used to shoot with a crap-tastic G26 until it broke...then borrowed a stock loaner KSC/KJW? G19 to go all the way to the steel challenge finals at the Year End Tournament. Thank god he doesn't come out to a lot of events...we'd all be getting whupped by a hawiian-shirt taped-together-shoe kid.

The possible downside with the 1911...is that it's single action only and so falls into the Standard class division and runs against a lot of Hicapa's. While the slim mags don't suffer as badly with 10 rounds as they would with full mag rapid firing...there's still a deviation from 1st to 10th shot. More so with the 1911 mags vs. 5.1 hicapa mags...exacerbated by rapid firing. BUT...that's only a downside if you think it's a downside....

Illusion does have a 2011/hicapa addiction...it's a serious problem. We're very concerned for his mental, financial and physical well-being.

I did mean the reason the 1911 falls into Standard Division is that it is a single action pistol...(the mag happens to be single stacked).

Prod = 226/glocks/92s/etc...no SA (HUGE simplification of definition re. IPSC regs for clarification)

At least that's how I read the IPSC provisional rules...at least the last revision I read...they're up to ver. 10 (C or E...can't remember)

Ah, yes. You are correct in that. I'd forgotten the division was between DA and SA.
