It's steel and aluminum your looking for. You screw un-treated / un-painted aluminum and steel together, let it sit for 3 days, and theres no hope in hell of ever getting them apart, ask me how I know lol
Unfortunately you need to take the barrel nut off in order to TIG weld it back together, no guarantee it won't warp the metal though, refinishing is the easy part...

Get a real upper. Hell, I'll machine it for you.

If you break that one will may have a problem on our hands.

Brian is asking for help and advice. Does your PTW-bashing do either? Why he bought a PTW is his business, and he's worked on 10 times more guns than you ever will.

How do you know? There are at least 3 different groups making complete CNC'd receiver sets out of a solid block of aluminum. I can tell you who they are and about how much they cost, but it's really not your concern, as you don't like the PTW, do you?

The reason this upper broke is because the counter-force used on the gun body was centered on the reciver pins. You think a real AR is tough enough to withstand that with a torqued nut? They make a proper receiver vise to do this job, and real armourers use it for real guns, not only for the distribution of forces on the upper, but for ease of assembly and alignment.

Actually I used a regular 3" vice with rubber pads on it when I took the barrel nut off my G&P. Took more than 40 ft lbs to remove that barrel nut and I did it with a pipe wrench, didn't even knick a tooth on the barrel nut.

Well, PTW barrel nuts are torqued on to 47-50 ft.lbs., just like an AR.

And the G&P's I've worked on, especially any with the RAS, I never needed more than my hands to remove the barrel nut with rubber gloves for grip.

But at any rate, whatever Systema decides to torque their barrel nuts on to, is not for us to decide. We know what it is, and if you use the the application of force correctly, you will likely not have a problem. They make the AR vise for a reason, it wasn't invented for PTWs.

If you can't get it fixed or replaced any other way, I'm certain my roommate can TIG it up for you.

depends on brand. Some like Stags, Armalite or RRA are machined from solid billetsothers like Colt, LMT or bushmaster are machined from forged castings.

I might have a spare upper or 2 somewhere. I'll have a look, but I have to put a ar togetter for the kids first.

Nice.

I'm actually looking in to acquiring a real upper now. After looking at the price of a replacement Systema upper, it only makes sense to get a real upper at this point...

Loctite 324 + Loctite 7075 as a temporary solutions, withstands 30000PSI and 300 degrees F before loosing it's properties. We used that in dies at work and they are still running strong.
