I know there is a fuse involved with this but I'm not sure it's considerd an explosive... nothing goes kablam, it doesn't shoot sparks (unless you count the fuse) Anyways..
does this thing smell once set off? ... how about a neon green smoke screen? |

I never said it was an explosive, but it's classified as illegal to make under the same terms as an explosive.

The thing authorities care about is 1) manufacture and 2) use. Manufacturing is illegal unless you have the right permits. Use of anything that produces ANY heat in an outdoors environment (forests, fields where airsoft is played) falls under a whole slew of Federal, Provincial, Municipal and other Bylaws that bite big time.
So the question to ask yourself is simple; do you have about $100,000.00 to waste? (Adding up the costs of the fire trucks and other things they can throw at you). Properly made smoke grenades can be used in some cases, but there's a LOT to think about and prepare for before that happens. The problem is that not enough people think first. |

this is very true not to many people think before they experiments. I have my fireworks licence and these would fall under a class C firework anyone under the age of 16 would need parental consent to buy and adult would have to be present. As for making your own it is not illegal but the same rule applys just like anything else there has to be accountability for your actions ( if you start a fire its your fault )

Aren't smoke bombs sold along side other fireworks for holidays? In that case, why are they illegal to set off?

If I had a doller for everytime I heard of or saw a "homemade pyro" fail in the hands of it's maker... well I would only have like... 7 bucks! And that's not enough for a new hand, finger, eye, arm... I think you guys get the picture.
Not to mention the trouble you'll find yourself in for making a homemade explosive/pyro device.

That makes sense.. if people are setting off fireworks (on specific days) and some can make alot of smoke, or if you set off alot it can make alot of smoke..

Someone made some and light them in one of our game. It was in a metal fruit cup container. It was so hot, the metal melted. I'd definatly forbid them for field and indoor use unless it's a sand pit.

And I'm certain you have not checked the laws about WHERE they can be used.

We use them already. The smoke is not bad, but not thick enough for effective masking.

The Kaboom Fireworks smokes are legal, but as Fox said, not very good. The marine distress smokes still seem to be the best bang for the buck, the trouble now is finding any. I believe our supplier has around 50 or so in stock which is insufficient for us to ship in and then redistribute due to logistics. |

Ok so robotics and rc stuff is one of my hobbies and i was browsing google and i came across these. http://www.hobby-lobby.com/atricks.htm (smoke trails) It said that it puts out thick smoke for 4 minites or so and there cheaper than the actual smoke bombs. Would they work?
