Have you considered a Reflex sight? Some of them can be quite cheap.

Not the hijack the thread, but think this is within topic. I am also in the market for my first scope.
Is there any reason to not go with a 1x42mm vs 1x30mm scope that the OP linked? My thought is the 1x42mm would give a larger field of view, making seeing targets easier and provided less obstruction? Went to a local Airsoft store and played around with a few red-dots to see what I liked. The gun-tech mentioned that the 1x42mm were no very popular, but did not give a concrete reason as to why. The Gun Tech mentioned this scope (or similar look) was more popular, but again no concrete reason; http://www.airsoftpeak.com/redgreen-...ck-p-9792.html EDIT - I did feel the knob on the right (to adjust intensity) was too small (especially if wanting to adjust with gloves) on the above scope. But I guess you would not be adjusting the intensity that often. My preference, at the store, was the 1x42mm, just seemed that it would be faster to get your eye/red-dot on target due to the large opening. I am now debating if the small red-dot would get “lost” in the large scope during the heat of things, anyone have any thoughts? PS – Thinking maybe the below for my first; http://dx.com/p/1-45-reflex-laser-si...igurable-12174 Last edited by Pointy; September 12th, 2013 at 19:39.. |

Well, the pros of a larger optic is obviously larger FoV. On a Mil-spec optic, this is great because there is no parallaxing. However; on an airsoft knock-off optic, there will be parallaxing. So, the closer the dot is to the outside of the FoV, usually the greater chance it is no longer on target.
Having said that, I found that having a huge FoV wasn't that much of an advantage with RDS because you're shooting with two eyes open anyways (or you should be, at least). My personal preference is the T1 aimpoint style of RDS. It's compact, effective, and can be put on a riser if your face is really fat, or you have a Quasimodo-eye or something.
