Time for a super noob question

you get the guns from the classifieds section or from one of the retailers that's all there is to it.

I'm pretty n00by as well, but there's nothing wrong with some fine grit (400-600) sandpaper and a can of krylon fusion (fusion is specifically designed to bond with plastic) camo flat black to make the gun look authentic. Considering metal receivers are hard to come by, and expensive when they do, this would be my choice. I've painted some of my wallhanger guns and they look good. As far field usage, that's a different story, the paint will eventually wear off, (but so will a metal receiver's) and its pretty easy to touch up or even give the whole gun a new paintjob with, you guessed it, a rattlecan.

hey, thanks alot vfr, that seems like the best way to go, at least until i can come across a metal receiver, which like you said, won't show up any time soon. another question i have is if anyone knows just how well canadian ICS's perform? since getting into this sport, all i've heard is that Tokyo Marui's and Classic Army's are the best, but i can't seem to find any in canada. i'd like to get me a TM G36C, but i can't find jack. so, i've found a decent number of Canada legal ICS's on mach1airsoft.com, but i dunno how well they perform. anyone have any input?

Performance wise, they are deadly accurate right out of the box. I should know!! hehehe.. We fire a few off everyday.

As compared to Tokyo Marui's Classic Army, i would say better then TM but not as good as CA. I haven't heard very good things (my local airsoft shop won't even sell them because they hate them) and i have a friend with one and it breaks all the time. But idk maybe they're ok and i've just heard the bad? Or maybe they stepped up thier game as CA did?
I would get AV'd and get a CA. I have one and 30,000 rounds later still shoot's perfectly. Very durable gun that won't let you down.

I'm just going to try to clear some things up for you.

Like everyone's previously said, you gotta get AV'd first. Once that happens, you'll have access to the Classified section, which is where all the buy/sell of old guns are done. As for "Black" guns, I assume you just mean all metal. These guns, like I said, can be found in the Classified section.

Just to note, the reason why you aren't finding alot of "black" guns on the market, is because it is hard to import them. Some retailers have begun importing guns with clear plastic lower receivers, which I'm assuming is what you're talking about, and they do this because these guns can pass through customs with relative ease. As people have mentioned, yes, you can get a hold of metal lower receivers to replace the plastic ones, and generally, some retailers will be able to get them to you.

As a suggestion, you should look up tokyoseven's "Noob FAQ" or something similar, and have a look at those links. They have all the valuable information you need concerning airsoft and the law.

as far as i know (and i'm a newb) it is illegal to sell gun replicas in canada. don't know why it just is. and its illegal to sell gas projectile guns that shoot over 500 feet per second and they have some other regulations to, like age and so on. Even guns that aren't replicas but kinda look like real guns can sometimes be seized by canada customs out of ignorance.
i've gathered all this info from this site. (many different threads)

i just wish that there were stores in canada that could contact ksc and other manufacturers to buy parts for you that aren't restricted by canada customs. i'm finding it very hard to find specific parts for my guns.
