Faulty Gears on Hop-up.

So, some people may know I bought the JG "Dragon/ ThunderMaul" off of a friend for $100. The thing is a total piece of sh!t. It shoots fine, except for the fact that the hop-up is jammed so it can't be adjusted. I found a guide on-line on how to disassemble the M4 body and get to the hop-up unit and when I took a look at it, my blood almost boiled and shot out of my ears, I was so p!ssed. One of the gears is faulty. It didn't come out of the plastic mold correctly and so the space between two of the prongs(?) on the gear is filled with plastic. Not only that, but one of the prongs(?) on the other gear, has been turned so hard against this faulty spot, that it made a VERY tiny indentation and is now stuck in its position and won't turn anymore. This is where quality control should have kicked in, and that gear should never have been placed on the hop-up unit. -_-'

What should my next move be? Do I have to replace the entire hop-up system? I think I may just sell it as scrap, or a project for someone when I get AV'd. If I do keep going on turning this thing in to a full M4. What are all the parts I would NEED, to put together a front end for this thing?

Thanks in advance.

I had to google that gun just now, that is one hideous piece of plastic.

From what your saying it seems the easiest thing to do would be to replace the hop up entirely. Im not sure if that thing would take a standard m4/m16 hop up but they are on average, $30-50.

Granted you bring your ID this weekend you will be AV'd in the next 2-3 weeks im sure. I would personally not invest a dime in that monstrosity but that's just my opinion.

No, I agree. It is pretty hideous. It's just a regular JG M4 with a shorter barrel, and without a front end under the plastic covering. Yeah, I thought I'd most likely have to replace the entire hop-up. Well, I think I may just use this gun to mess around with, and turn into an abomination while I use my CA M15A4 for games and general use. ( When I get it of course D: )

ummm if it's the gear at the "top" EI the one that actually pushes the hop up (closest to the barrel end) .. it's SUPPOSED to have one of the tooth spaces filled.. that's the Max hop stop so you doing spin past full hop and potentially damage something

if it's on one of the other 2 gears (the bigger one you move with your finger, or the middle one) then those aren't supposed to have a "full" tooth ...

if it's been cranked that far and still not hopping properly then the nub isn't going down quite far enough, or the rubber or the lil nubby inside that pushes down on the rubber is damaged...

either way or form... a new better hop unit will more then likely be in your future anyways. if you do purchase a new hop up, try and purchase the same brand nozzle to go with it

screw on it may just be too tight. I've accidentally tightened a few too much in my time and it makes it feel like the hopup is frozen solid.

Yeah, it was the middle one with the filled in teeth. I knew the last one was supposed to have it when I looked it up online, so I ended up popping off the middle gear after removing the first one and filing down the filled in spot. It takes a little more effort when it gets there, but it works. I'm just going to throw it all back together and test her out.

Now, for the front end of an M4, do I just need a new inner and outer barrel, and a foregrip? Or is there more?

possibly also a delta ring and gasblock/front sight I'm not 100% on what useful parts they kept in the gun when they threw that shell on it.

Yes, it's fugly Lol. Well, it has a Delta ring on it, apparently the same one as on JG's regular M4. So I'm thinking I'll just have to buy a longer inner/outer barrel, a Front sight, RAS, and then fiddle around to get them all together. The front sight on the "Dragon" is part of it's shell. I guess it's another visit to Huang's for parts.
