Linton LT-6100

I just got a Linton LT-6100 plus from techseller (Great service BTW) along with a usb programming cable. I finally got the usb-serial cable working with a bit of magic, but i cant seem to use the software to program it, it wont detect the radio. I got the mcp-6100 program from techseller, than made sure that i was on the right com port (i know its talking because when I tell it it flashes the light like its trying to transmit), but then the program tells me sorry cant connect.

Is it even possible to program the radio via the pc?

Any suggestions would be great as i hear its a popular radio on ASC

The first thing I would suggest is a completely new serial port cable, and making sure it's the proper one.

I'm more wondering if anyone has successfully programmed this radio via pc? Google is not very helpful on this one.

I have an older Linton that I program from a laptop. It's tedious but doable.

Also are you sure your laptop's OS is within the suggested range from Linton?

I have two Linton LT-6288 radios, and I'v had the same issues. But I had the luck of buying them programed. But I'm still trying to figure out how to change sub-channels? They do work awsome though!

Check with Gish or any one of the JOC guys. They've been using them for years, and both of your units were programmed to JOC frequencies and FRS frequencies.

I bought them pre-done because I'm useless at computer shit.

They don't have sub-channels, just more channels. Figure out what the frequency of what they other guys are on and match it with your radio.

I have my programed like the JOC guys, so one main, and then three sub then another main and then another three sub.

So if someone goes to channel 6 sub 2 for example that will be channel 23 on my walkie.

There's no such thing as sub channels. You can see my radio primer stickied in this section, but sub channels are actually CTCSS tones. If your radio supports CTCSS tones, it supports "sub channels", but conventional radios don't play by the same rules.

CTCSS tones actually only filter out anything that doesn't have the corresponding tone, and only on a radio that's told to do so. A radio that doesn't recognize the CTCSS tones will pick up all traffic on the channel. So when you think you're private, you're really not. So if you're on a GMRS radio channel "22 sub 2", I can tune a UHF set to 462.7250 and hear everything you say. You won't hear me, since your radio is looking for a CTCSS tone, and mine isn't sending one. But mine doesn't discriminate, so I can eavesdrop on you in privacy.

If I want to interop with your unit, I can enable CTCSS tones at 71.9Hz, which is "sub channel 2" under the general FRS / GMRS nomenclature.

I know a few things of CTCSS encode/Decode from my Kenwood radios (TS-570D),But they work alittle different. So I just have a bad habit of calling it a "sub-channel" so most people understand what I'm talking about. I just can't figure out how to program channels on it as I bought these ones already done. Now the kicker is,I bought a program disk & cable set,But does Not work with Windows 7 and I didn't know that till I bought it. So I'm kinda stuck! But there has to be a way to enter manual channels? I know the key pad is dual function,I just havent figured it out ? If any one does, feel free to chim in,I'm sure it would work for the 6100 as well Sorry for hi-jacking the tread. Maybe we can get a two for one answer lol.

I figured out how to do most of it with the keypad. for now I'm going to keep a small reference page in my bag with the radio for CTCSS tones in case some one decides to use them. An observation i had while programming it, I cant get the exact frequency (no that it matters i suspect, FRS/GMRS radios are prob not that exact). Mostly putting comments here for anyone else that searches later on.
