sighting in my sniper
Just wondering if you guys can answer a couple questions for me about my sniper rifle.
How do you guys like to sight it in? Inside? Outside? What is your scope usually sighted in for? FT? What gram of BB you usually use? Last edited by DualGlocks; March 19th, 2011 at 20:36.. |

*Sniper rifle*. If you want to sight in a sniper you might have to make a trip to the optometrist.
Generally you want to be using a heavier BB like 0.28 Outside is fine if there's no wind, otherwise you won't get a good zero. |

Yeah i was thinking to do it in our shop, over 100ft long, and sight it in for about 100-150ft zero'd.
I heard .25s arn't bad, true? Also my sniper shoots over 450 -550 |

You don't really need it to shoot over 500fps. I know some of the higher end sniper certs allow up to 600 fps but do you really want to have an 80ft MED?

380 on .20's is about the sweet spot, run some .30's in there and you have a laser (well compared to using .20's or even .25's).
PS: That's probably quoted using .12 BB's.

If you were AV'ed.you could take the AS sniper coarse.
That being said,a heavier BB plus the proper set up,will yield decent results. If you are starting off at AS,I would suggest a semi AEG. This still gives you self defence against close contacts.

Now that I think of it probably. Still my first aeg I bought was used and set up to 570fps with .2's. Anythings possible.

Remember AS is different from RS,What you get from
a tight bore high end AEG is usually the max you can get from a AEG.Take your time and find the perfect mix for the gun you have.Bolt action should have a second member with you. This second is your safety screen while you scope potential targets.

If you go the sniper route with or without a spotter, you will
find in the limited range of AS that you will be at a disadvantage. Your second provides cover and ranging for you, small AS games are to quick to be effective as a sniper.Sometime you can luck out, but, most times it is a crap shoot.

I always dialed in my scope on my M24 at 30ft in my basement using no lighter than 0.30g BBs, and just tweaked it for distance and hop up setting at the field if needed. If you have an indoor range of 100ft, even better.
And don't bother using anything lighter than 0.30g, you won't get any type of performance you were hoping for out of a sniper rifle. As for velocity, I used to run at 500fps w/0.20g BBs, and use heavy ammo, would get quite a few flyers that would take off on their own within 120ft or so, later found out that BBs are unstable at high velocity. Past few years I played I had the 24 set at 400fps (w/0.20g)and the performance is better than any I've seen when using 0.36g BBs. Nutshell, don't get fooled into thinking faster BBs give you more range, they don't, they just create a more unstable environment for a little ball to deal with when travelling through unstable air conditions. |
