WE 1911 - grip safety preventing from cycling normally

got a WE 1911
alright heres what it does :

if i physically remove the beavertail from the gun, it shoots perfectly fine. So no beavertail = works great.

When the beavertail is installed :

if i don't hold down the beavertail, the trigger doesnt move, which serves its purpose, as it should.

if i grab the gun and hold the gun normally, pressing down on the beavertail, the gun shoots weak, inconsistent, or dumps all the gas. Also, the hammer doesn't go forward completely.

if i only apply slight pressure on the beavertail, making it go "half-way", then the gun shoots perfect. (needless to say this solution is not very user-friendly, and therefore not a solution)

i've tried adjusting the leaf spring in all the ways possible, unsuccessful.

its as if when the beavertail is fully "pushed in", something goes wrong.

anyone know what i have to do??

you only posted it yesterday..... be more patient and wait. Stop reposting it in the incorrect sections. That won't get you much help either.

i reposted in the upgrades and modifications section, since it occured after a complete repaint. figured someone there may have gone through the same problem doing something similar.

patience is uneasy for me, but you're right :P

sounds like the leaf spring is the issue. Great part about that is that you don't need to buy a new one.. just bend it so it has more tension on the three areas. I had something similar happen to me when I dropped my gun and couldn't figure out what it was until a friend looked at it real fast. He just bent the leaf spring so it has a bit more tension and the gun fired A-OK.

Also... since you've painted the gun over... I hope you didn't paint the internal part of the gun as it adds a layer to the gun which might make the internals have a tighter time to move. If that is the case then looks like you're in for a really painful sanding job of the inside of your gun.... which would totally suck balls.

Ohh man.. good luck with that.

Try working with the back section first... clear up the area above the leaf spring.. then the two sides where the trigger would slide in (might be easier to pick off the paint there with an thin exacto. Those would be the areas it seems that you are having the problems at least.

To be safe I'd also do the magazine well.

At least it's a lesson learned off this... painters tape the internal area completely before spray painting.

yeah i already noticed the mag's fit is super tight on a full mag. But honestly, i wouldve never thought that just a little more paint could have such an effect on the leaf spring area. indeed, lesson learned. up side is, i have one hell of a nice paint job :P

i'll keep you posted on the full process, that way if anyh more people have this problem, they'll know.
