im turning 15 hoping to get an airsoft for my b-day am i even allowed to discharge it? and what are the laws for transporting a airsoft gun?
if my parents buy me a airsoft rifle in the u.s. well mbo3 to be exact are we allowed to bring it across the border? sorry if some of these questions are a bit stupid im new to airsoft.

1. Yes you can discharge an airsoft gun, just do it at a game or in a private location that belongs to you whereby no one can see you. It has nothing to do with age and everything to do with location. Your backyard is not appropriate. A general rule of thumb is if you can see a building or cars from where you are then it's not a good idea.

2. Transporting Airsoft should be treated with great respect. Bag them up in a fashion which makes them impossible to tell what they are. Using a rifle bag or case is a good start (or inversely a pistol case in this situation) or tuck it away in the box it came in inside something during transport, such as a duffel bag or backpack. Only transport the gun when going to a game, do not carry it with you for no logical reason.

3. No you cannot bring airsoft over the boarder. They are more often then not seized and destroyed. Failure to declare them can result in fines and possibly criminal charges. Also straw purchasing an airsoft gun is a very gray area of the law and I would not recommend your parents do so.


You may wish to contact some local fields in your area and speak with the hosts to see if you can audit a game or even participate, if your responsible and willing to abide by the field owners rules then you might be able too, that however is up to the host.

If you really want to get into plinking, I suggest you hit up some local walmarts/Canadian tires and see about getting a springer shotgun or pistol to plink with. This sport is not cheap and can quickly rack up very expensive tabs that even folks with good paying jobs have a hard time keeping up with, let alone a 15 year old.

Consider waiting a few years (3) until your old enough to buy your own stuff, work part time jobs and do stuff that teenagers do (like discover girls). Airsoft will be here when your ready.

Most everyone on this forum will tell you to get “Age verified” and buy from the classifieds.
You cannot import any guns from websites outside of Canada.

That depends on where you live and your city regulations. If the city does not permit the discharge of any type of air or pellet gun within city limits than you should not be seen outside using your soft air gun. On that note please access your user settings and update your profile location.

What are the laws for transporting an airsoft gun? I wouldnt so much call this a law as a rule. That rule is common sense. How would you transport a machete? or really big scary looking knife? In your hand? Walking casually down the street? Of course not. The item should be in a container and out of the public view during transportation.

In regards to your parents purchasing you any form of airsoft or soft air from outside of Canada. The straight and simple answer is no. Without going into the long winded explanation; all you really have to understand is that airsoft importation is not permitted.

It comes down to not being an idiot. Behave like it's a real firearm. Don't think about how mature you are or how ok with it your parents are... think about what kind of reaction other people will have if they see a 15 year old with a gun. Joe Public doesn't like that sort of thing. And I guarantee you "oh, it might be a toy" will not in any way enter their minds.

While I don't personally support <18 owning an airsoft gun, as long as you're not a selfish idiot who is actually capable of comprehending what other people's reactions will be if they see you with it, and act appropriately, you should be fine.

PS. All bylaw stuff applies, so it may actually be illegal for you to discharge an airgun in your municipality.

THIS is the right way to approach it, and we all know that some people can't tell a 15 year-old from a 20 year-old, meaning that the police get a call about 'some guy who's running around with an assault gun' which means a world of pain for all concerned..

be safe and ALWAYS keep your guns covered unless it's out of public sight, this means to-and-from any vehicle and around any windows that give the public a good view...

For plinking at a cottage best to get an air rifle or pistol that shoots 4.5mm or .177 cal. They're a lot more accurate and easier to get. I suggest something from the Daisy Powerline series or similar series.

Also it's easy to import them as they are unregulated firearms, which means you just need to declare it at the border, pay some duties and you're good to go. Airsoft on the other hand (that shoot 6mm plastic BB's) are not allowed through the border (once on the other side however are perfectly legal to own). Don't ask why, it's just been legislated that way.

Usually if you're out in the sticks it should be fine to plink cans however read all relevant ordinances to your city/municipality since it may or may not be prohibited. If so then you can get a fine of I think something in the region of 200-400+ (varies depending on what the fine is written down as for your specific municipality) as well as possible confiscation of the device (doesn't matter if it's airsoft or a pellet gun as they are both "air powered" and in the eyes of the municipality are both illegal to discharge).

PS: Also be smart and don't be an idiot and you'll be fine. If you're waving it around at the beach or w/e someone's probably going to have a problem however if it's obvious that you're shooting targets (ie. target stands, safety glasses, large target sheets, precision shooting sling, etc.) then they're going to be less likely to phone the police/ERT/RCMP.
