Hey, there. I don't know much about gear and guns yet, but I know there's a GREAT surplus shop on Yonge street, just south of St. Joseph. It's called Central Surplus, they've got a great selection of kit, most of it decently prices. Also, I'd go with OD for starting, it's versatile and low-budget, great for starting.

As for fog, you can either buy a good pair of fog-free goggles or glasses or get some scuba spray, I hear that works pretty well. :] Best of luck and hopefully I'll see you on the field!
