MP5K - Galaxy versus TM
Hi,
I have the choice between a MP5K by Galaxy and a TM one, both new and stock, Would it make more sense to upgrade the Galaxy one or get the TM and do basic upgrade (tight bore, metal bushing, 350 fps spring)? Thanks, Bong

And the Galaxy version is surprisingly good (let's not generalize about chinese crap). I have been using mine intensively for more then 1 year (and it was used back then) and it's still going strong.

True, a more specific question would be,
Can you get similar (or better) performance with an upgraded Galaxy versus a stock TM at a lower price (using the asian price as reference)?

Id go with the Galaxy. I have 2, the mp5k and the pdw version. Both are good guns for the cost. Lets not generalize about crap chinese guns because most marui parts are made in China if you didnt know. Ive only had good experience with these guns and i can vouch for their durability given that you didnt get a lemon, which can also be fixed if you know how to thinker or know a good gunsmith. Even CYMA has released an all metal mp5k which i am anxiously waiting for. The internals are at par or even better than the TM version. The TM only beats it with its hop up, but even that can be remedied. I am not alone in this opinion because almost every team i have encountered here in my country have Galaxy mp5k's and that is a sign that this is a very good gun. Although i find the price in Canada shocking since ive bought mine brand new for P2,600 or $45 us dollars.

Yeah Gravewolf, prices here suck. Airsoft (even the clear ones we've got going, dunno if you've seen them) are a bitch to import, so there's usually a 200-300% percent price increase.

@Danneich
Well it is an expensive hobby and sometimes its well worth the price considering the amount of fun we get to have. I have seen the clear ones and i dont really like it. We buy our guns a lot of accessories to make it look real. But i do think the clear ones has its uses because you wont be able to use it for mischief like some of the news in my country where airsoft guns are being used for robbery and harassment of other people. Theres a law here that you can get your gun confiscated if you expose it in public and dont have a license. Seriously its the stupid people that make our lives as airsofters miserable. |

I have a Galaxy MP5K. It's a decent AEG for indoor gaming. I use it as a rental and it's been dropped more times than a crackhead's baby and it is still going strong.
I dunno about the TM one. Given that the price is substantially more and the FPS is out of the box low for games over here your going to have to upgrade it almost immediately. The TM should have better internals but the overall quality is only slightly higher than TM M4 / 16 series stuff which suffers from poor design (barrel wobble, etc) |

HEY.
DO NOT BRING THE TM M4'S FLAWS OUTSIDE OF THEIR M4 LINE. Goddamnit. TM's MP5's are amazing, they have AMAZING hop-up designs... TM is amazing all around. You're paying for engineering, research and amazingly machined pieces. Everything will fit together like it's supposed to, every upgrade you put into it will work flawlessly... EVERYTHING WILL BE GOOD IF YOU GO FOR THE TM. |

TM Mp5k is awesome, and I can say that from first hand experience. It was my first airsoft gun, and it was great. Hop up allowed you to sail some shots seriously further than you would have though possible with such a short barrel.
However... CYMA has a full metal MP5k coming out that you might want to wait for.

LOL.
Hey AmosI know you know your stuff more than I will ever know. But in terms of TM series overall quality how would you rank their stuff? From reading (obviously I don't own a gazillion TM AEG's) how would you rank overall quality from series to series. Here's how I have interpreted it in order of best to not so best. 1. M14 2. P90 2a. AUG 4. AK 5. MP5 6. M4 / 16 7. PSG-1 I never said the TM MP5's were garbage because they aren't. I have played with people that use them and they are more than fine. However, TM quality is different from series to series. And again I have a Galaxy MP5K and it's been abused by renters and it's still going strong. Here's an older review of TM MP5's I found online that might be useful. It's not very flattering on the K variant. Same complaints can be said of the Galaxy too. http://www.teamwehrwolf.20megsfree.com/custom.html

The general consensus is that the cost of buying and upgrading a crapsoft is equal or more than the price of the original TM. Plus aftermarket parts are designed around the original TM design so you have to deal with any fitment/reliability issues. Get a TM if you have access to both. No point upgrading a clone not even being certain that the aftermarket will even put the clone up to the standard of the original. If you're going to upgrade, why not put some quality parts into the quality original right?

Id still go with the galaxy, there has been an influx here of second hand TM mp5k's with complaints similar to Galaxy. I can vouch for the Galaxy's performance against TM's because it is an almost perfect clone of it. Any part that would fit in a TM would also fit a Galaxy because ive serviced both and the only difference internally was that TM's have more smoothness inside but they just both perform on the same level. We have a growing community of airsofters here that use ACM's and the reliability of these guns have greatly improved to the point that a majority of players here on the field use them, even the veterans.
