There's a few good threads here on the Swiss Arms SIG552; search a bit for them. I'm in the Toronto area and I've done extensive work to my 552. PM me with your exact location and maybe we can get together for lunch or something. Or I'll just walk you through it over some PM's

But first check out these threads:

and also watch the videos at Mechbox.com about V3 Mechboxes.

Yea the mechbox.com stuff is awesome... Don't get frustrated when he does it 99billion times easier then you though. I recommend opening the mechbox inside a bag or something the first few times.

Well use the links from buzzrex and you'll find the only info worth reading. Buddy helped me and I still need to find some stuff for my SIG. The hop up rubber is for some reason thinner, so get lube/silicone to aid you in replacing it. The bushings need to be upgraded to metal and for shimming use mechbox.com to help you. The first link buzz has leads to a thread with another link its like 848tactical or something and shows how to get inside the bugger.
And dude if buzz wants to help and can show you take that oportunity cuz no one was here for me just 5 hours in my basement and a v2 from hell!

People generally don't teach others because the ones that repair guns on a regular basis are billing customers for it.

It's like going to the garage and ask the mechanic to teach you how to do an engine maintenance so you won't have to go to the garage anymore.

I've found some of the stock inner barrels actually a little bigger in external diameter so it makes fitting them into metal hop-ups a bitch. I thought it was just me but then I got a tight bore and everything just went together.

Getting into the 55x series isn't so hard, but it's a little fiddly at parts.

The mechbox is just a mechbox.

What you're asking a guy to do, to do it right, would take quite a few hours. What a guy can do in an 2 hours can take 4+ hours to teach and explain. Depends on you as well. You might be sharp as a tack or dull as a butter knife.

BUT...nothing beats hands on demonstration...quickest/easiest way to learn it.

As an alternative, consider arranging the following:
1. Ask someone to show you shimming. Go through it completely. Key points, necessary resources, tips & tricks. That'll take an hour, maybe a bit longer if you go slow. You might not have your mechbox done by the end of it...but you'll have the knowledge to do it yourself.
- don't get into having the guy show you how to disassemble your 55x...it's basically a time waster. You can get that info from youtube.
2. Swapping hopup rubbers and installing a barrel into a hopup is no biggie, but there's some key things to look out for.

Keep in mind that a busy gun doc is probably going to charge you the cost of a repair.

Best of luck,

Tys
