Unhappy G&G M4 CQB-R problem: retractable stock will not retract fully / battery sparking

Thank you for taking the time to read my thread. I have recently purchased a G&G M4 CQB-R. It works great but 75% of the time the stock will not collapse fully! it seems to hit something just before the second last position. This never happens when the battery is out. Today, I was shooting some targets, I pulled the stock out to charge the battery. I noticed a small metal plate coming out of the negative side of the battery. I put duct tape over it and started to charge it. After it was charged, I put it back on the gun to fire a few more rounds. I connected it to the gun, and the negative terminal flared up! What is wrong?

Any help you can give is appreciated!

Thanks again.

Well, mashing the battery with the stock wouldn't be too great for a battery, and duct-taping a loose connection will cause it to short repeatedly. If you can't spend any extra cash on a new battery, at least try to connect it firmly with electrical tape and see if that keeps it from sparking.

Eitherway, I cant speak from experience, since I've never really owned an AEG, but hey, it's a common knowledge.

EDIT: Also, if you're using a large battery in a retractable stock, it will not fit properly. Small batteries for the retractable. If you really want a large battery, get a full size stock.

Don't put the battery in the stock from the front like the manual shows. Pull the butt plate off and stick it in from the back end and pull the connector through so it connects at the back.

That way your stock will collapse just fine without any wires getting pinched or pulled anywhere.

And have the connection on your battery repared properly. Find someone with a 50-60W soldering iron.

Some duct tapes are conductive also.

And change your wires from the battery to the connector. Looks like you are shorting the wires with your buffer tube.

I use to own a G&G CQB-R M4.

The problem you are describing is a common fault with that Airsoft Weapon.
You have to be extra careful with the sliding stock, otherwise you can damage the internal wiring.

You don't want to damage the wiring loom too much, otherwise you will have to rewire it to the mechbox, and its a bastard !
The wire seems to be a lot thinner than the normal gearbox wiring looms. The reason for this could be the very small hole in the stock pipe which the wiring loom goes through to the mechbox.

I agree with Mike624 in his advise / comment,

So unclip the two plastic clips on the rear of your stock and remove the but plate which gives you access to the battery. By doing so will reduce the risk of damage to the wiring loom and the connectors.

what kind of battery are you using? I have a 10.8 volt in my G&P crane stock, and on the installation manual for the stock, it says it won't retract fully with 10.8 v batteries.

I know exactly what your talking about! If you dont wanna take the plate off just take the shitty plastic bracket (with battery in it) put it all the way down on the buffer tube, install stock (slide it over the battery) and enjoy!

i have the G&G CQB-S and yes thats a problem. What I did to fix this on my gun is run the wires through an old phone chord. i cut the chord and removed all the phone wires, then inserted the battery wires in the rubber coil. used shrink wrap on the ends of the coil and i havent had a problem since. heres a pic.

Thanks for all of your time!
Willo: I did not realise that duct tape carried a current. I am now using electrical tape. I did not "Mash" the battery into the stock. I am using the batteries that came with the gun... I hope they are supposed to fit properly...
Kos-Mos: I got my dad's soldering iron and will re solder the connection manualy..
ZeroAlphaOne and Mike264: The clips on the back of the stock are very tough to get off I am afraid to use pliers on them. Will they break?
Alpha-Sierra: I am using a 9.6v 1400mah battery that came with the gun.
Surkon: That sounds like a great idea but it looks a little to advanced for me... It looks like you did an awesome job on yours.

Update! I just re soldered the connection and tried out infekted's idea. It seems to have fixed the problem. *knocks on wood* I will give the repair a "Field Test" this weekend at my cottage and report back. Thanks again!
