Don't know how well this works on other pistols, but I know you can reverse the mag release on M9s. My mag catch on my KJW is worn out so that when I pull the trigger and shoot, the mag now comes shooting out of the grip. I simply reversed it to a left-hand configunation, and it works like a charm. The real steel Berettas have this ambi capability as well. I think that's a pretty specific thing to Berettas though. I've checked all my other pistols, and none of them can do this. Other than the USP that has an ambi release, I don't know of any other pistol offhand.

As for Hogue grips, I can't speak for the 1911 specifically. I know that the full Hogue wraparound grips fit perfectly on the M9. They will fit on a P226 with some modification. I would assume they would fit on a 1911, since they're the same size as the real steel. At the very least, they'd more than likely only require minor modification to fit.
