I'd go for painting the whole rifle, scope and bipod included.

If you want an effective camo theme, it must blend with your environement AND break the shape of the rifle.

If you take my cadpat M24 for example. It blend in well with the backgroud, but it lack breakpoints. You have to have the best compromise between both breakpoints and blend.

Your rifle should be invisible from 50feets in your environement.
