It mounts exactly like the real Troy one: barrel nut tightens down on the barrel to hold it in place, then upper 3/4 of the handguard fits over it and a clamp is screws into it, locking it to the barrel nut. The lower rail then slides into place and locks onto the lower clamp which has a spring-loaded pin to keep the rail in place.
It really feels like one massive chunk with the upper receiver.
