In the second pic you've posted, the individual stands out clearly. If he was lying in the other direction, taking advantage of the horizontal lines of grass, he'd be much more concealed.
It's not just what you wear, but how you use it. Good patterns help, but the operator's actions go a long way to make it optimal.
