I just quickly scrolled through that discussion and there is a number of posts on short dots. Instead of posting a whole new thread, maybe joining in on that one would have been more productive.
Anyways what I bought was an Bushnell AR223 - the prices will range from 100 USD without Rings up to even around the 250ish USD range for the one with the illuminated reticle. The price value is quite good, looks alright, and it's a real steel brand even if it's the "budget" brand, it's still better than anything Airsoft.
Can be found on ebay, Amazon, pretty much everywhere.
