I just painted my VSR. Once you get your hands on it you'll see how easy it is to do.
If you're just painting the stock it's a sinch....there will be two screws on the bottom that you'll remove which will allow you to pull the receiever out from the stock. In which case you just can pull the rubber buttplate off, give the sock a light sanding and then paint away.
If you want to paint the entire thing you'll have to strip it down a bit further but there are lots of guides online that show you how to take apart a VSR. It's pretty easy to tell what shouldn't be painted and what can be. Like I said...once you have the gun, it's pretty easy to figure it out.
But if you get stumped I can take some pics and show you what I did to mine.
