I've gamed with a Mauser a few months back at a game in Sherbrooke.
The gun is pretty good, in my opinion. It's accurate if you adjust your scope and hopup and I'd give it a 7/10 for the price.
I've seen some A&K SVD's out there for 250$ though. Don't know much about them, but I've heard they're alright since you said you're on a budget(as am I, I plan on getting myself a new AEG soon enough).
A few weeks ago - the good friend of mine who owns the sniper took out three guys with it in less than 15 seconds with ease, but I would suggest an AEG DMR.
Auto > Semi in some situations, and the good thing about an AEG is you can switch between both settings. So it's a win-win situation.
