I've rummaged through enough boxes at surplus stores and been gouged on enough mediocre used merchandise to know that unless you know what you're looking at and you're getting a really good deal, you're better off buying new stuff.

Off-the-shelf BDUs may seem expensive, but knowing you can rely on something and putting your own wear into it counts for a lot.

I just ordered some licensed Multicam from these guys, and am pleased with the service.

~60 bucks a piece for pants and tunic sounds like a lot when you're starting out, but when some places want to charge you 40 bucks a piece for used 80's Canadian ODs....
