The Notch at the front is for the Front Sight
You can put a short CQB barrel in a CASV
The CASV is RAS
and the KAC RIS you have shown is just a different style of Rail system
The CASV is free floating (meaning it does not attach to the barrel)
THE KAC RIS is attached via the Upper and the barrel
Both systems are for Armalites (M4/M16 Family)
