Knee Pads on Ankles

I'd just like to understand the purpose of this I've seen a lot of videos and pictures of both airsofters and real soldiers doing this with one knee pad on one knee which makes sense as I think most soldiers will shot from one particular knee when kneeling but then they have one on the ankle of the other leg. Is this for like jumping into Urban Prone so you don't bang your ankle?

Sometimes they slip :p ... Only integrated knee pads stay put 100% of the time.

They slip, so personally I keep the left one on my ankle so I'm not bothered, When (if) I need it, I'll just pull it up instead of having it constantly slipping.

Crossing the straps in an X helps prevent this.

KISS... ah I almost forgot that one, but I'm sure it would work!

They are annoying to walk around with, and they get sweaty too, so during off action periods it's best to drop both to the ankles for relief, and when needed put them in place and do your thing.

The real guys are wearing them all day long. So if they are in downtime like Stalker said, they wear them loose so they are easy to get at if they know they will be going into a fight.

Airsofters saw the real guys and said hey that looks cool, im gonna do it too.

I do drop my knee pads when the games are down for lunch etc, then they go back on.
