Camouflage vs Mono Color
 

I just bought a 5.11 tactical shirt in Green Color.

I have 2 questions:

1. I know most of people wearing Camo shirts in field (bushes, woodlands, trees... etc) but how about a Mono Color (green, black, tan... etc) shirt's effect in the field? is it much easier to get spotted? or not much different?

2. Is it common that people wear camo pants /w mono color instead of one set of pants/shirts? or does it look stupid?

Camo colors are for blending. But they don't cut shapes of the body. By using a mix of plain and camo fabric you can actually reduce visual detection. Simple. The brain is a pattern-recognition machine. By separating your arms from your legs, it will take more time for the brain to "assemble" all the pieces.

I am not for sure on this topic but I believe that the reason camo is prefered over something like OD is that it kind of breaks up the human figure which makes it harder to spot someone.

Coyote tan would probably work better with your camo pants. The more you break up your outline the better. 2 + 2 = 4 ;0)

What i'm saying is to separate your arms, legs and body. Having different colors/camos can actually reduce your visual detection. Especially in urban environments. But 80% of visual shapes detection is from you head/shoulder.

But, whatever colors, movement still the worst of camouflage.

Great Learn today. Quote "Camouflage don't cut shapes of body", that solved my doubt that I can still see people clearly even they wear great/expensive camo shirt when they standing in trees and bushes.

I have an OD loadout in progress and it works fine, but I think camo works better to break up lines. Otherwise they wouldn't have invented it, and troops wouldn't be wearing it. I think it all comes down to the surroundings, the more you can blend in, the better. Just my 2 cents.

Big solid chunk of dark color like OD can be an attention getter if you aren't careful (depending on your surroundings, too); throw on a tan or CB plate carrier or similar rig on and it'll break up you silhouette more.

As per my sig line:

Plain OD is a very effective camoflage colour. Since it's still a big blob in a see of shades and forms, you need to take special care to camoflage yourself. As is behind something, close to the ground. Especially avoir silhouetting yourself.

If you wear a vest over that OD shirt, and the vest is not OD, you will keep a good camoflage ratio.

My team new BDU is plain OD. Our success rate so far is as good as any other people with patern camo. Simply because most people search for moving targets and can't really detect immobile embushers.

+1 The pattern is not the most important factor in detection. The movement is what really give you up. Althougth every hints giving in this post are good one, even the best camo patern will give your position as soon as you start moving in front of your oponens.

Solid colours/simple cam patterns are great once you roll around in the dirt and mud for a bit. If that isn't you thing, stick w/ the multicam....

My team is a PMC team, so we usually wear tan or od green, sometimes just any dark, black or brown shirt. Since we use it often we kinda learned how to hide with it.

Mind you, camo will still be better as what the others said.

I found that being the only one in OD in a group with camo's and staying just a bit off the main group just off the beaten path worked really well on getting the drop on a party ambushing your group.

standing up in trees OD is a pretty dead giveaway.. but if you stay low and don't mind camping now and then it still works really damn well...

I'll be augmenting my old CF OD combats with Molle and peices of multi cam and cadpat soon though ;)
