Outer/Inner Barrel

Can someone please explain me what the difference in use for an Inner and Outer Barrels of an airsoft gun? Also in this link below there is a picture with some parts (including an outer barrel); what are the parts that are along the top of the outer barrel (not the flash hider) and why are they needed for (I think this part is called the push rod, but not sure)?

Thanks for any help.

Outer barrel - Cosmetic
Inner barrel - Functional

That tube looking thing ontop of the barrel the gas piston and tube, it is purely cosmetic.

Ok, so can I have a gun with only an inner barrel and a flash hider (no outer barrel or gas piston tube)? And also, do flash hiders fit on inner barrels?

I don't think you quite get it....

The inner barrel is the 6mm tube the BBs travel through. The outer barrel is the one that replicates the barrel of the real weapon. The inner barrel is inside it.

You must have both on your AEG. Unless you want it to look ridiculous. You cannot fit anything on the inner barrel.

G36k outer barrel removed to show the inner barrel(brass):

Ok thank you, but do I need the Gas Piston Tube on the outer barrel of the AEG?

It's only there for look and maybe to reinforce the barrel of the G36, but it serves no purpose in the compression mechanism of the AEG.

Why wouldn't you want it though? The whole idea is that our AEGs look like the real steel weapons.

Well I'm trying to understand what the parts of AEGs are used for. But isn't the Gas Piston Tube hidden once the Handguard is in place?

Omi-san April 13th, 2008 21:01

Yes, with the G36, it's inside the handguard and barely visible. Unless you are planning to build a G36 all by yourself, there is no point worrying about such things.

which is un-advisable seeing your asking such questions.
