Celcius CTW: Systema PTW clone

Just ran into some intresting news on Arnies:

Translation:

This mid 2008 celcius will be releasing the CTW M4A1 - Advanced System. Mede in Hong Kong, this high fps aeg is designed for military training. Size and detail matches the real M4. Marui type aeg's have thicker bodies to accommodate the gearbox. CTW gearbox is thinner and matches the size of a real M4, with parts compatible with a Systema PTW.

For airsoft players, dont need to worry, because celcius will be providing a Civillian version with 350-550 fps using 0,20 bb's. just by changing the cylinder, users can change their fps in less than 10 seconds. So for safe gaming it can be adjusted to each clubs rule.

The poster also says that the price will be less than Rp 5.000.000,- IDR which is about $500 USD

Getting, pending reviews.
This is gonna be seriously awesome if it turns out to be wicked, it's already available in Indonesia according to Arnies.

ShaWdowS April 9th, 2008 23:51

Unbelievable... It'll never be a PTW though IMO.

Plus it's such a blatant rip-off OF the PTW.

Looks amazing still

The Saint April 9th, 2008 23:52

Some people think it might just be a bunch of vapourwear though.

TokyoSeven April 9th, 2008 23:55

Hmmm, an asian clone? I dont know what to think about that. Well I do, but I dont think I want to say anything about it just yet. This needs some thought.

kullwarrior April 9th, 2008 23:58

already discussed deeply in ptw forum, price seems wrong from most feedback (too cheap to be true)
Also it didn't mention about realistic weight or material which this part they can cheap out on.

TokyoSeven April 10th, 2008 00:06

Can and most likely will.

HaZarD SFD April 10th, 2008 00:08

Yeah but would be sweet if we could drop in a PTW mechbox

Which asks the question: if you're going to do that, why not just get a Systema PTW to begin with?

mcguyver April 10th, 2008 00:22

A PTW is not just a "drop in a gearbox and go" sort of gun. There is a certain amount of precision required to ensure part "A" meets up with part "B" which meets up with part "C" sort-of-thing. If they cheap out on QC, you will never get the gun to work.

There is an alternative apparently in the works, but it won't be a cheap China clone. Instead, it will be a CNCd clone.

Damn brad? Who's making the CNC clone? Any news on that?

Lakonian April 10th, 2008 00:30

Fock that. Seriously.

Always AFTER the purchase. God damnit.

For some reason, since the ESTIMATED price is about $500USD, I'd assume after the usual patented Canadian price-gouging that it will be around $1100 to $1200, at which point if you seriously want to appreciate the technology, you may as well save up a bit more and get the REAL deal PTW which is tried and proven.

If a clone of a normal aeg CAN cause a lot of headaches, think about the possible things that can go wrong with a clone PTW where parts would be even scarcer and less available to find.

Of course, I'll reserve my final judgment when the product gets more critical reviews in the rest of the airsofting world.
